Charm City 2053.4 - The Insider Edition
With the trade deadline getting closer by the day your Charm City Jimmies are reportedly not anticipating any major moves and possibly are considered by those on the inner circle of the team content to stand pat for the second season in a row with a team that some feel could make some noise in the post season.
The Jimmies were known to be on the search for a catcher, but they've been quite happy with the job Hollis 'Duck' O'Hara has done since being promoted to the starting catcher position. O'Hara isn't an offensive dynamo by any means, but management has been thrilled with his pitch framing and defensive play. Another name that has tampered their desire at adding a catcher has been mid season free agent addition Randy Bader who has handled the pitching staff quite well and has a 99 OPS+ in 55 at bats since being signed.
Charm City is also been quietly looking at a potential improvement in centerfield. Incumbent centerfielder Mike 'Tired' Cox has struggled in his second full season this year to a .232/.282/.296/.578 stat line. There were reports that San Fernando CF Arvin Duggan being discussed between the two teams, but Charm City backing out of the talks early due to the high cap hit on Duggan. Charm City management likes the idea of having financial flexibility in case a highly paid stud player becomes available for trade...
...Speaking of which. The Jimmies were one of the teams whose name was tied to SP Bernie Stuart.
Mark 'Bender' Lolololo and Geoffrey 'Flash' Dodson were names that were rumored to be discussed by the two teams initially. Before trade negotiations got off the ground due to a Pittsburgh Steelers game Stuart was traded to Rocky Mountain. Some members of the Charm City management team was disappointed as they felt they were close to a deal as they were willing to part with both players Boise asked about. A lesson was learned though. Pay attention to the phone when watching football.

Ah, yeah, so this is awkward...
What can I say, sometimes you gotta play the field, and jump on the best deal when you see it.

A left handed catcher with 12 defense! I wonder how many LH catchers the Brewster has seen. I’d think OOTP is programmed to prevent that.

C Philitis Tsafento has had a decent career. I feel like I've seen quite a few lefthanded catchers. Its the lefthanded third basemen that OOTP isnt a big fan of.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 2:23 pmA left handed catcher with 12 defense! I wonder how many LH catchers the Brewster has seen. The last LH catcher in MLB was a guy who caught three games in 1989, so Brewster is unique in this regard. Looks like you have to be an elite defender for the game to let a lefty stay at the position.GoldenOne wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 6:59 amC Philitis Tsafento has had a decent career. I know there are some differences here but I dont think lefty catchers matter all that much. My daughter is a lefty and she played catcher for a while. I went to a coach's clinic and talked to Ken Eriksen (head coach of USF Softball and was the Coach of Team USA at the time) and asked him what he thought about left handed catchers. He said he didnt care, as long as they could play. He said in fact, both of his catchers on the Olympic Softball team at the time were lefties.

Chip Saunders was a really great lefty catcher. He played in the 1930's primarily for California (Sacramento).

Re: Charm City 2053.4 - The Insider Edition
With so many PAs coming from LH hitters in MLB I don't think it matters too much for the throw to 2B, but a lefty does have a legitimately more difficult time stepping and making the throw to 3B. I assume that's why you haven't seen one in MLB in so long. Of course, with how much SBs have decreased and the importance of framing has increased maybe that shouldn't matter so much anymore.GoldenOne wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 12:40 pmI know there are some differences here but I dont think lefty catchers matter all that much. With Robot umpires in AAA this year framing might be a thing of the past in the not so distant future.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 1:53 pmWith so many PAs coming from LH hitters in MLB I don't think it matters too much for the throw to 2B, but a lefty does have a legitimately more difficult time stepping and making the throw to 3B. It's the umpires' own fault for being so wildly inconsistent
