New Charm City Jimmie GM, Genius Hopkins, announced his first free agent signing today, thirty year-old journeyman catcher Kazuki Saito.
Saito is coming off of the worst season of his career, in which he managed to hit for a .246/.273/.375/.648 slash line in 333 at bats for the Sacramento franchise. Genius saw fit to reward the struggling old timer with a $14 million, three year deal to sit on the bench behind young backstop Brandon Dean.
"Saito was a gold glover as recently as 2041," beamed the Genius, "I'm sure he is still somewhat good."
The move resulted in young twenty-four year old catcher, Shan Guan, being DFA'ed to make room on the forty man roster for the aging catcher.
"It seems reasonable," smiled the Genius, "We only gave up Quinton Lara last July to obtain Guan, so making Guan available for free to the entire league, seems like a great deal all around for Charm City."
Season ticket sales continue to move very slowly in Charm City.
