Warehouse Wire 2048.03: Grummit CEI

Post by bcslouck » Tue Sep 28, 2021 7:09 am

Once one of the bright spots of the Jimmies organization, injuries have caught up to pitcher Andrés Grummitt. His latest injury has been determined to end his career.

A 3rd round pick in 2042, he quickly proved to be better than even the organization thought he'd be. The only problem was injuries. His latest injury was the 20th overall of his career. All 20 were after he was drafted by the Jimmies.

"We're sad for Andrés," said GM Brandon Slouck. "Injuries kind of prevented him from making to Baltimore. You know, people kind of leaped him because of it. But he had seemed to find a spot in the bullpen this year. He earned that spot. With him out of options, he had to earn if he wanted to stay a Jimmie and he did. It's just. It's a cruel game."

Indeed, the still only 24 year old lefty was off to a nice start out of the 'pen. In 15.2 innings, he had struck out 10 with an ERA of 1.15. In a bullpen that had struggled, he was a bright spot.

"No," when the GM was asked if Andrés would be available for a comment. "We've advised him to take some time away to process the news. He was very emotional and rightfully so. He will probably speak to you (the media) at some point in the near future, but I'm not sure he's ready to answer some of the questions you guys have."

The injury that ended his career was a torn rotator cuff, the 2nd of his career. Most of his injuries were fairly minor but he's had 3 major arm injuries. He first tore his rotator cuff back in August of 2044. He then ruptured his UCL in April of 2047, just as he was competing for a spot on the ML team. And of course, tearing his rotator cuff again on June 1st of this season.

We here are the Warehouse Wire wish good luck to Andrés in finding fulfillment in life after baseball.
