Warehouse Wire 2047.04: Offensive Tweaks Working

Post by bcslouck » Tue Jun 08, 2021 2:30 pm

The 2046-2047 promised to be an interesting offseason for the Jimmies. With star SS Wilson Andrade set to hit free agency with no deal in sight, the team was going to lose some real fire power. With that in mind, the organization knew they had to add offense despite losing him.

The team acquired slugger Gary Allen from Hawaii via trade and signed António Martínez
in free agency to help do so. Martínez in particular has been on fire so far, slashing .405/.457/.770 with 7 HR's and 21 RBI's as the teams primary DH. He's been among the JL's best hitters in the first month of the season. Allen hasn't adjust as well to his new home, though he may be starting to heat up. He has a hit in 6 straight games and has hit 3 home runs as apart of that streak. The team will take more of the .308/.438/.769 slash he produced last week.

While those guys in the middle of the lineup have been nice adds, Tomás Guillén has picked up where he left off last year, mashing the ball to a .368/.439/.586 slash and tied 2nd in the JL with a 1.7 WAR. The Jimmies are rumored to have offered him a contract extension as he's set to head to free agency after the season. Negotiations have gone much better with the still only 26 year old RF and a deal is expected in the next few weeks.

After surprising the league with a nice year after being picked up on waivers from Phoenix, Jesús Valenzuela
has also been contributing. While not hitting for much average, he leads the JL with 9 HR's and is one off the RBI along with Martinez at 21. He's starting to mature as a legitimate middle of the order bat.

The surprise though has to be Javier García
. After a solid Spring, he still only made the team due to injuries in the middle infield. He's made the most of his opportunity, batting .361/.418/.623 at the bottom of the lineup. Chances are he will stay on the roster until he stops hitting.

With these guys being the main cogs in an offense that struggled last year, they now lead the JL with 6.0 runs per game. They have the most HR's in the league with 46 and also lead with a .838 OPS. While the higher ups in the organization would like to see more hits and walks, they are very please with the production the pitching is getting. Pitching that is middle of the road this year, something not expected after a big year last season. With expectations that the pitching will right it self, this could be a dangerous team if the offense keeps doing what it's doing.

Allen off to a slow start.. ONly meaning when he returns to the mean he'll be huge when the other guys start to cool off. I could really use an Allen or Martinez in Portland...
