Warehouse Wire 2046.02 - CCJ's Double Dips in 1st

This years draft saw the Jimmies have two 1st round picks after not signing CF John Henderson last year. The team has the 18th and 28th picks in the round.

With a draft full of SP's about ready to be in the BBA, the Jimmies went another direction and took a projectable lefty in Richard Bullock at #18. The 17 year old (soon to be 18) appears to have a good head on his shoulders and is described as having a "quiet demeanor." Bullock can touch 91 with his sinker, but it usually sits a little lower than that. The team is hoping they can get some more velocity out of him. Given his age and wiry frame (6'5" 185 lbs), there's probably a couple more MPH in his arm. Bullock throws 4 pitches. He shows a fringe plus curveball that is already solid, a potential plus changeup that is also solid for his age, a sinker that is okay but won't be much better without some development, and a potentially above average splitter that is fairly solid right now. With a solid HS career behind him, that he will sign despite the price tag. He will probably start his career in Assateague (R).

With the #28 pick, the team was looking to nab a hitter but instead took another SP, Ryan Cline. While also a high school lefty, the newly 19 year old is 9 months older than Bullock. He's also slightly more developed. All of his pitches project to be above average to fringe plus. All of the pitches, a fastball, curve, and changeup are mostly developed as well. Cline also throws hard, topping 94 but is mostly around 92. While more velocity out of him would be beneficial, the team thinks he can be successful. Cline will probably start his career in the Cayman Islands (S A) with an eye on making the rotation in Cumberland (A) for 2047.

As stated before, this draft is loaded with ready to go SP's. Given the logjam in the upper minors, the rotation is something that could use more depth in the lower minors. The organization is also targeting hitting, which they could of had at #18, but fell in love with Bullock as a guy for the future. They didn't really like anyone at #28 and liked what Cline had to offer so went for it. With the recent hot track record of getting some SP diamonds out of the rough, the team hopes they can continue their hot streak of turning ordinary arms into solid ones and getting the guys with room to grow to become big time arms in the future.
