Warehouse Wire 2044.06: The Constable Has Arrived
Bill Constable will make his long waited debut tonight out of the bullpen.
Despite the under .500 record and just overall terrible season, the team still finds themselves within 4 games of a playoff spot. Bullpen has been a big issue the last few years and Constable will be used in a stopper role in an effort to add a high stuff arm to important innings.
"We're real excited," said GM Brandon Slouck. "We hoped to be in a better spot at this point, but he could be a game changer for us. He's shown really well at AAA and we think he can finish off his development here in the majors as a major asset."
Constable pitched very well out of the rotation at AA and AAA this year. His AAA numbers are arguably better. Ticketed for the rotation potentially next year anyway, the organization feels it's time to let him get a taste of the majors. He still has some control problems from time to time, but he tends to mask them with high strikeout rates and keeping the ball in the park. That being said, his BB/9 was under 4 at AA and improved to under 3 at AAA. He may be starting to turn that corner.
Making the playoffs is a long shot, even within 4 games. The team has greatly underachieved in just about every aspect. The offense up until the last couple of weeks was anemic. But since finally starting to pick up their slack, the rotation has started to falter. And the bullpen is, well, an issue again. Hopefully adding an arm like Constable will take some pressure off the rotation and bullpen. Thought putting that much pressure on a rookie could be a huge mistake.

He's past the time when CCJ would burn a Super-2, so that makes sense. So assuming he's going to be with the big club next year there's no real reason to wait.

Well, he was as good as advertised. 5.1 innings. Only 2 hits allowed and 1 BB. 9 K's. All in close losses. -_-
