Warehouse Wire 2043.04: All-Star Reps

Post by bcslouck » Tue Jul 21, 2020 7:58 am

Going into the All-Star break chasing a playoff berth and potential division title, it's no surprise the Jimmies had a couple couple of representatives in the mid-summer classic.

José Toledo not only made his 1st All-Star game, but he was voted as the starting 3B in the game. Toldeo has shown flashes of power and decent hitting ability over his first 2+ seasons. This seems to be the season he's finally put it together. Now 2 weeks after the game, he carries a .306/.347/.593 (.941 OPS, 146 OPS+) slash line which would by far be career highs. He's also only 4 2B's away from tying his career high and his 22 HR's puts him on pace to be right around his career high of 36. He's been good all year with his worst month being a .845 OPS in June. It may be tough for him to get in another All-Star game if the rumors of him moving to 1B next season are true. But he's having a hell of a year and may be proving he has enough bat for 1B.

Despite not having the year he did last year, Wilson Andrade is still the best SS in the JL and probably the BBA. A .912 OPS is nothing to turn your nose up at, even if it's .107 less than last year. That's just how good he was last year I guess. He looks to be topping 50 2B's once again, the 3rd time he'd do so. 30 HR's also looks like a possibility. His defense has been better as the season has gone on but the bat is legit. Also selected as the JL starter, this was his 2nd selection on his way to what looks like a 2nd Puckett award.

The teams 3rd selection, appearing in the game for the first time since 2038 and 1st time as a Jimmie is RP Fernando Márquez. His post All-Star game numbers haven't been very good but overall, he's arguably having his best year as a Jimmie. 30/33 (90.9%) on save opportunities, he has a strong chance to top 50 saves, something only done once in franchise history back in 2032 by Wilmot Schlöndorff. He's been really good and may need some help from the current bullpen arms or some outside acquisition(s) to keep him to just closing out games.

One omission we must highlight is catcher Quinton Lara. A 3 time All-Star, this was the first time in his career he didn't get a roster spot on the Johnson League team. While having a nice bounce back year that would be All-Star worthy in most, the JL had many deserving candidates that had put together a more complete first half. If he keeps hitting like he has recently, he may still have an outside shot at another Puckett, an award he has won twice.
