Warehouse Wire 2042.05: Net Runs Created Analysis of CCJ

Post by bcslouck » Thu May 14, 2020 7:11 am

If you haven't checked out the latest league feature breaking down runs created and where players stack up when comparing that to defense. It's a good series that for the most part reiterates how good certain players are but has a couple surprises.

The Jimmies overall fair about as you'd expect overall. In most cases, they are in the average range. Considering their 71-69 record, the Jimmies kind of put over the idea of how the analysis relates to wins and losses.

Quinton Lara, unsurprisingly, is one of the players who rank near the top. He ranks 5th in the catcher category in overall Net Runs Created (NRC) with a 42.931. His RC/27 is 4th overall at 6.3 runs, solidifying his status as one of the better offensive catchers in the league, even in a down year for Lara. His ZR*9 ranks 13th at 10.8, which also solidifies that he is slightly above average as a defender. His defensive numbers are in line with his career numbers except for one stat: Passed Balls. Thus far, he hasn't allowed a single passed ball. We can assume this is why his ZR is a career high 1.8.

Another player who popped was Wilson Andrade. #1 as a SS, he is clearly the best SS in the league at 147.77 Net Runs Created, 66.3 NRC more than 2nd place. While his defense is solid at a 2.7 ZR, ranking 9th, his numbers are driven heavily by his offense. Flirting with .400 for the first half the year, it's been no secret the offensive break through Andrade has had this year. His 10.5 RC/27 is far and away the most in the league, 3.1 more than the 2nd most in this category. The kid is good. We all know it. This just shows how good.

Other notes from the anaylisis:
-Joaquin Hebner ranks 8th for 1B (39.65 NRC), surprisingly. His RC/27 ranks 13th at 7.2 and 11th with a 3 ZR. Considering is lack of HR power and not being in the top 10 in either category, Hebner shows well analytically.
-Tomás Guillén ranks 9th for CF with 35.15 NRC. The drop off to #10 is pretty dramatic at 26.3 NRC. You can kind of break down the Top 9 into 3 groups (#1 hasn't played an inning of CF so I don't lump his other worldly number with CF) and Guillén falls into the 3rd tier as a solid above average CF.
-Charm City doesn't have a corner OF that qualifies. This points to the mixing and matching they've had to do to get production out of spots that normally have at least solid bats out there.
-The Jimmies only have one player that ranks in the bottom 10 of any list. William Drew's -8.55 NRC ranks him 14th out of 22 qualified players. He may rank more favorably if he was strictly in one of the COF spots. Small sample size has him as a better LF this year.
