Warehouse Wire 2041.04: CCJ makes Greg Brown 1st pick

Post by bcslouck » Wed Jan 08, 2020 9:57 am

With the 20th overall pick in the 2041 draft, the Charm City Jimmies have selected Greg 'Hitman' Brown, Starting Pitcher, IBM.

Brown, a 3 year SP at IBM, shows potential to be a solid SP. He throws 5 pitches with all 5 flashing at least above average. All of them are already solid pitches for being 18 years old. His velocity sits in the high 80's but touches 91. Many experts expect that to increase as his fills out his 6'4" 190 lb frame. They hope between that and some mechanical changes, he can get that velocity up in the mid 90's.

He's a smart kid and may be difficult to sign. Between his college commitment and high demands, he will likely command an overslot bonus. Luckily, the team has plenty of money to spend and hope they can give him enough money to go pro.

2041 has been his worst year as a SP for IBM but that doesn't concern the organization. A .365 BABIP suggest he's been unlucky and/or he hasn't gotten much help from his defense. While he doesn't project to have control issues, he has issues the most of his career in less innings. That is something that will be monitored.

Brown projects to be a back-end rotation SP. While he doesn't have big upside, there is a lot to like about the young man from Miami Springs, FL.

I was in on Brown, too. If his velocity bumps, with that retinue of pitches, he should contribute well for you.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
