Charm City came into the offseason with intentions of spending money on free agents after a 77 win campaign in hopes to make a push back to postseason play. That first step has been put into action.
On December 4th, they signed corner OF Eliseu Satino to a 4 year $20,000,000 deal. The first 2 years are guaranteed with a player opt out after year 2. The last 2 years have team options. Satino is a career .307 hitter with a 122 OPS+. 2039 wasn't a great year for him but he has the ability to crush RHP pitching. He projects to bat toward the top of the lineup versus RHP while sitting most days versus LHP.
SP Maxime Manceau was signed on December 16th in hopes to get a solid veteran presence in a young rotation. His peripherals tend to be a little better than his overall numbers, but he's been a solid pitcher for a long time. The Jimmies hope he continues to produce as a solid mid rotation option to help stabilize a staff that has struggled in recent years. He signed for 2 years $16,000,000 with a player opt out after year 1 and year 2 being a team option.
By all accounts, the team isn't done. There have been rumors of talks with multiple teams about deals but none have brought about serious talks. They reportedly also have some interest in a couple more free agents. The team definitely has holes still that can't be filled from within at this time. For the most part, they are looking at shorter term deals to bridge the gap to some of the top prospects that are getting closer to ML ready. Some will be ready as soon as this year but the more impact ones are probably targeted for 2041.
Either way, it's clear that Charm City is open for business and may be ready to start making waves once again.
