Warehouse Wire 2039.06: A lotta talk. A little action.

In the middle of one of the wilder trade deadlines in recent memory, Charm City had a lot of talks with a lot of teams around the league but ultimately pulled the trigger on one trade.

It's been known for awhile that Carlton Winson was on the block to move his salary which would include moving a prospect, potentially more, to get out of it. Sources say a deal was very close up to about an hour within the deadline before the team decided to hang on to him. Just about every team involved wanted at least SP Mauro Ríos and the team couldn't justify moving a pitcher of his caliber in a salary dump.

OF Jean-Luc Lacaze also drew some interest but a deal was never as close as Winson being traded. Lacaze has been hot of late and has pushed his OPS against RHP passed .900. He could of been a good asset for a team in a stretch run and may push himself into compensation territory so long he opts out of his contract.

The one trade they did make was sending prospects Pierre Lemaire and OF Aires Gonzalez
to Calgary for $10,000,00 in cash. Both project to be solid prospects down the line. Lemaire could be a fringe starter but definitely can be an asset on a BBA bench while Gonzalez may have a better chance to start as a corner OF down the line. While the team is in good shape financially and should finish the season in the black, cash is always a useful asset. The team will start paying stadium fees this offseason, so a chance to avoid having to cut into the funds set aside for that was worth trading the *two prospects who will have to be protected in the upcoming Expansion Draft.

While a lot of talks were had with little results, it was good to gauge interest in players for when the trade window opens back up. The team should have a lot of players that need to be protected and will be looking move some in an effort to keep talent in the system. Expect another active offseason going into the 2040 season.

I heard a rumor that Winson wants to retire. So maybe it's the best trade you never made.

I wouldn't bet on it, but it could happen.

That'd be wild and wonderful.
