Warehouse Wire 2039.03: B2B POTM

Despite having one of the worst pitching staffs in the JL, the Jimmies have had a couple of standout performances in the first half of the season. June and July saw Jimmies' pitchers take down the JL Pitcher of the Month.

SP Jorge Nevarez won the May award. The 21 year old rookie has been impressive this season, going 9-3 with a 2.68 ERA in 104 innings over 16 starts. He picked it up in May, going 5-0 with a 1.94 ERA in 41.2 innings. His FIP of 3.89 been lucky this year, but that would still be a solid number for his first time through the BBA. He has firmly put himself into the JL Gillstrom conversation for best rookie in the league. He's currently on the 7-day IL with a sore elbow that seems to be a day-to-day injury. The team will be extra cautious with the young SP.

Following up in June was RP Alfredo Sosa. This is his second fill season of logging major innings out of the bullpen. He tired during the stretch last season as his ERA rose to 4.26 over 154.1 innings with a slightly higher FIP of 4.58. This year he's on pace for more innings, logging 97.1 innings with a ERA of 3.05 (3.52 FIP). June was much better for him, going 5-1 with an ERA of 1.54 over 35 innings, striking out 35 as well. He's manage to bail out the team who's had issues with the SP's logging innings. His innings have managed to keep the other bullpen arms fresh and he picked it up in June.

These two have carries the Jimmies pitching staff this season. Sitting at 41-42, they are still in the division race while not being far out of the Wildcard. While this year probably isn't this year and the team will probably fall off with a Pythagorean record that lags behind the actual record, it's been a long time since Charm City has been in the mix at all, even if on the outside. And these two young men have been some of the biggest reasons why.
