After rumors of the MBBA expanding and changing its name, the now Brewster Baseball Association (BBA) has awarded the winning expansion bids to the following cities:
Virginia Beach Colonials
San Antonio Missions
Wichita Aviators
Portland Lumberjacks
As the cities listed rejoiced to be apart of the premier baseball league in the world, ownership of each of those teams had work to do. Hiring prospective GM's and coaches, in hopes that they can get this roster full of EBA players, and hopefully some MBBA veterans, to contend with some of the great franchises in the league.
Brandon Slouck, bleary eyed and dragging a bit, is the last one off the plane. After flying from Paris to Virginia Beach three days ago to interview for the GM job there, he's been to all of the potential new BBA opportunities since coming back to the states. Except Portland.
Portland wasn't meant to be the last interview. It just worked out that way. Between the logic of traveling east to west once he got to VA Beach, and ownership being the last to even schedule an interview out of the four teams, it just went that way. And it was his last shot at his dream. Three cities. Three jobs. Three "We're sorry, but we have decided to go in another direction for our GM position." Portland was his last chance.
As Brandon walks in to ownership's office, he puts his tiredness and disappointment aside. He gives a big smile, a firm handshake and lays out his short and long term plans. He's honest, and tells him it may be a few years before the team is a true contender, but has plans to get them there while also doing his best to get butts in the seats and hopefully not make the fan base wait long for a winner. Ownership likes what they hear and let him know they'll be in touch.
Back at the hotel room, he flops onto the bed. Finally, some time to relax and rest up. Just as he closes his eye and is about to nod off, the phone rings. Its the majority owner of Portland. Brandon nods a few times as the owner talks and thanks him for the opportunity. As he hangs up the phone, he realizes he won't get much rest after all. He heads back to the stadium to get to work.
