Warehouse Wire 2036.07: 2036 comes to a merciful end

Post by bcslouck » Mon Nov 19, 2018 9:28 am

2036 ended with the Jimmies having the worst record in the league. It was a year that the nobody expected the team to be competitive, between the team preview in the annual media guide and lack of time given to Charm City in the league's season review podcast. While everyone including the Jimmie's GM Brandon Slouck knew it'd be a down year, the organization didn't think this year would be this bad.

56-106. -233 run differential. 15th in runs scored and 14 in runs allowed. It was a bad year.

As bad as it was, the team was never really whole. In a review of each team's injury time lost, Yellow Springs GM and writer Ron Collins summed it up perfectly: "Wanna know why Charm City was as dramatically bad as they were? Perhaps it helps to know that they lost 1,006 days to injury. Yikes." Those 1006 days were 2nd most in all of the BBA. A lot of those days were the team's best players. Felipe Murillo, Luis Miguel Carrillo, and Carlton Winson all missed significant time. All were pretty good or better in the time they missed. How many more wins does having them even 75% of the time instead of 50% give them?

The team could never find a solid mix for their rotation either. Arturo Reyes started off decent but fell off in the middle of the season. Van Willard was a cheap signing to try and eat some innings. He was awful and will probably have his team option declined. Masamune Ueda has a rough middle of the season but started off okay and finished better. It was a mixed bag otherwise, more toward a bad mixed bag.

The team has a lot of decisions when it comes to non-tender candidates and team options. Injuries and ineffectiveness muddy these decisions. Murillo is due to be out until the Spring. He was dominant as a stopper for the team. Can he stay healthy though? Carrilo also has a team option. Sources seem to indicate that decision on him isn't as hard and they may just pay him off to opt for a more defensive minded catcher.

We could get into more things but the bottom line is the season was lost at the ML level but the farm improved some. Most of the teams better prospects had solid years and will move up to the next level in 2037. With the coming draft, the system should get deeper. But 2037 will probably be another lost cause for the Jimmies.

I suppose it could have happened, but it's hard to imagine the season could have been much worse.
