Warehouse Wire 2035.07: Belgian CF Found
Add CF Johan Dijkman to the list of international players the Jimmies have added this offseason. This time, he was found in Belgium by the scouting department.
"We really like Dijkman," said GM Brandon Slouck. "He's blazing fast and has the ability to be a solid CF right now. He has the chance to be a decent overall hitter. Jack of all trades, master of none, but you know those guys. He works hard so we think he can reach his potential. I'm really happy with this one. He's a good kid."
Dijkman is another CF added to the Charm City mix. CF Alberto Velásquez was added during the IFA period. Velásquez may end up the better hitter, but Dijkman probably has a better chance to stick in CF. Velásquez's bat may play better in a corner OF spot and he may end up with a little less range. He can also potentially play 3B.
"I'm happy to be apart of such a class organization," said Dijkman. "I'm ready to get to work."
As of this writing, he ranks as the 28th prospect in the Jimmies organization. Given the system isn't particularly strong, he could move up the ranks quick. Rumors from the warehouse seem to suggest he could report to rookie ball, as he turns 17 just before the season starts. From what he have been observing, the rookie team seems to be where newly drafted players out of high school and IFA's who are 17 (or close) will report, while the short A team will be more for college draftees and guys who need some more AB's before full season ball. The short A team may also add players via demotion from the A ball team, as the team wants to see what some guys can do instead of waiting in June to get them playing time.
"We want these guys to play," said the GM. "The short season teams are great assets to get guys experience and get them back on track. But I want to see our best guys play and if they aren't quite ready, we'll let them go play with competition more suited for them."
With all that said, Dijkman is just another solid prospect added to the cupboard for the Jimmies.

I agree that Velasquez probably isn't a CF - looks like a 3B or RF to me... and I'm torn on where I like him more (unless the 1 DP precludes him from being a 3B - I always forget about the minutia like that). I like Dijkman as a CF at first glance, but wonder how the arm might affect him - might be easier to hide that in LF.

I agree with all of that. Though at 16/17, it isn't out of the realm of possibility to see Velasquez range bump some and Dijkman arm also bump. We'll see. I'm going to do my best to get them XP all around, so hopefully they find a spot. Plenty of time for that.agrudez wrote:I agree that Velasquez probably isn't a CF - looks like a 3B or RF to me... and I'm torn on where I like him more (unless the 1 DP precludes him from being a 3B - I always forget about the minutia like that). As for the 3B thing, I always assumed a bad DP rating didn't matter, but I don't know for sure.

he is left handed, will never have a 3B rating. Also the weak arm would be a problem at 3rd even if he was right handed.

We are talking about Velasquez, who has a cannon. But he's LH, so yeah.usnspecialist wrote:he is left handed, will never have a 3B rating. Also the weak arm would be a problem at 3rd even if he was right handed.
