2034.09 - Perrolas tears UCL... again

Post by bcslouck » Sun Apr 29, 2018 7:33 pm

Fabiano Perrolas will miss the next 13-14 months after tearing his UCL on 8/31. He could not be reached for comment.

"I feel horrible for the kid," said GM Brandon Slouck. "He came into this season healthy and was really moving up the system. Injuries started nagging him again. He was on rehab and.. I just feel awful for him. There isn't much more I can say. Hopefully he can rehab it again and be back better than he was. If anyone can do it, that kid can. His perseverance is inspiring. I'm rooting for him. I'd be rooting for him if he was on another club. Just heartbreaking."

The 19 year old lefty suffered the same injury back in 2032 during Florida League action. As highlighted here, the injury lead to his release do to crossed up paperwork. Some have speculated that his brief stay in Louisville during the mixup "ruined" him. While that is an easy excuse, the original injury happened under the supervision of the Jimmies, just as this second injury has. Needless to say, the team trainer Glen Spencer appears to be on a very hot seat. While he does well to rehab injuries, his methods have not been the best for preventing them. Given some of the other issues with injuries, the team may need to go a different route to get the most out of its players.

He came back still strong from the first injury. But can he do it twice. It seems doubtful. While the GM remains positive that he can bounce back again, we've seen many talented pitchers go through injuries that derail once promising careers. Odds are, this is another case of a potentially great arm that will never realize that potential.

Along with León, the Jimmies have two potential high impact arms that just can't seem to stay healthy.

I blame the in game manager. Perrolas is fragile with numerous injuries like you mentioned. He sprained his elbow and missed 2 weeks. On his first game back he strains his rotator cuff and misses 7 more weeks. On his first game back from that he complains of a sore back. Yet his manager proceeded to throw the injury prone RP out there for three consecutive days, racking up 7 and 2/3 innings and 111 pitches while injured.

I didn't notice that. Pretty bad. But, I did get rid of the trainer. We've had a lot of other injury issues lately. I don't know how much he impacts that, but his prevention stats aren't the best.

To add to this, you can't set a general rule of when to sit players by DTD injury, can you? I know can go to each player and do that, but haven't seen it under team strategy. I think I need to start at least adjusting the setting to valuable players and prospects just to avoid stuff like this going forward. Probably set it to minimal for all prospects (that I care to protect) and, depending on injury history, do minimal or moderate for ML'ers.

I'll just send guys I care about that have relevant DTD injuries to the DL. Better than letting the AI manage it IMO.

The DTD happened during the sim he also had his UCL tear, not the sim before. There really wasn't anything I could about it. Adjusting the player setting for DTD injuries would of protected him from being forced to throw with a sore back.

As for DL'ing DTD guys, I do that from time to time. With a 7 day DL, I probably should more often, if I have the chance.

And.. he was on rehab. So you'd the fact he's on rehab would trigger something that has the manager not pitch him while hurt. I should know better. I'm just going to have to take another approach to handling players. OOTP.. always learning.

I don't think there is a way other then each player strategy. I already do what Fred does and just DL 95% of D2D injuries. But after seeing this I'm going to go ahead and click on "Bench Player if D2D" for any fragile or important players I have. I don't think it's your fault and with a guy like Perroloas, it may have just been a coincidence and he would have gotten hurt anyway. But with the injury model being more volatile and realistic, It doesn't hurt to take a few extra precautions I guess.
