2034.07 - "Charm City siting at 41-26. Is that for real?"

On the latest episode of the GM's Corner Podcast hosted by Yellow Springs GM Ron Collins, his guest was BBA Commisioner and Las Vegas Hustlers GM Matt Rectenwald. You can listen to that here. I would encourage anyone reading this to listen if you haven't as it was a great conversation between the two GM's. But one quote stuck out, in particular, to everyone in Charm City.
"Charm City siting at 41-26. Is that for real? I don't know." - Matt Rectenwald
It's another line in a list of media being down on Charm City in 2034. While the quote isn't bashing the team and is just a question what what they are, it's obvious to read into that the commish is another Charm City doubter on the long list of them.
"Yes, I heard the quote," said GM Brandon Slouck. "I knew you guys were going to ask me about as you love 'controversy.'
"We respect him as a commissioner and GM. He's one of the best around and his word carries weight. But last I checked, wins and losses get you in the playoffs, not Pythagorean record. It's a nice tool to use for various reasons, but it's not the end all be all. When we talk wins and losses, we're up 9 games on Vegas, sitting pretty in the 1st Wild Card with a bunch of teams between us. He has plenty of season to catch us or for us to fall on our face and to answer his question how we think he feels, which would be to fall out of the picture. But right now, we are the better team. And you can print that."
When comparing the two teams, it's a wonder the Pythagorean record is so tilted toward Vegas while saying Charm City is over performing a bit. Run differential wise, they come in exactly the same. Charm City has scored a couple more runs, but Las Vegas has given up a few less. Regardless, Charm City, like most of the league, does expect Las Vegas to turn it up at some point and at least get a Wild Card spot. Though almost halfway through the season, at what point does a team not catching some breaks go from simply under performing to it just not being their year?
I can tell you with confidence everyone in the Charm City front office and locker room feels that 2034 is their year.
