2030.03 - Savage chooses CCJ
LF Alfredo Salazar, former EBA All-Star and 4 time BBA All-Star has chosen to sign with Charm City.
Multiple teams were in on the OF slugger. Charm City managed to edge out the other teams with a 6 year, $160,000,000. The deals pays him $23,000,000 for the first 2 years, $27,000,000 for following 2 years, and $30,000,000 for the final 2 years. There is also reportedly an additional $12,000,000 in incentives tied to the deal that could push the total value to $172,000,000.
He will be moved to LF to form one of the more exciting OF's in the game, alongside CF Desiderius Kirshbaum and 2029 All-Star selection Daniel van Halen in RF. The trio has the potential to be together for at least the next 5 seasons, with both Kirshbaum and van Halen having 5 years of team control remaining.
"With this signing, we feel we have one of the best OF's in the game," GM Brandon Slouck proclaimed. "Sanchez has been great for a long time. But he's still in his prime. So we think he'll be one of the more productive bats in the game. We already had a solid OF with Kirshbaum making strides in CF and coming around with his bat and van Halen being an All-Star. We need the latter to stay healthy. But they all can hit and catch the ball. And we are very happy to trot this trio out on Opening Day."
The GM also acknowledged that the team "still has work to do." The team still needs to address the left side of the infield and add some pitching all around. But making a splash like signing Sanchez will not only show the fans they are serious about acquiring top tier talent, but it also shows potential free agents that they are looking to try to win now.

Good get. The contract may be tough to swallow when he's accounting for over 25% of the cap and Behner, Logan, Kirshbaum, van Halen, Jones, Gonzalez, Cruz, and De La Cruz all come off their league minimum contracts. But if those guys all produce, he could make the Jimmies a potential playoff threat.

Possibly. I can see a couple guys I'll probably non-tender at some point and Whitten will be off the books after 2031 (I'd assume; has a player option). I also have to hope that somehow Pachecho opts out. I'll have to do some juggling but I'm hopeful for budget increases to help cover the young guys.udlb58 wrote:Good get. Win some games and make some money and that budget will shoot up. Mine went from mid $80MM to $120MM in just 3 years.bcslouck wrote:Possibly. I do find it interesting that Salazar has been signed to huge contracts by two rebuilding teams hoping to use him as a cornerstone. He is a great hitter, and could really make CC a threat this year.

Yeah, it's interesting. If I had an open corner spot, I'd have made a bigger push. But I didn't want him in CF for me for the next 6 years.udlb58 wrote:I do find it interesting that Salazar has been signed to huge contracts by two rebuilding teams hoping to use him as a cornerstone. Yeah, I offered pretty much the same contract (less in year 1 to stay under the cap, more in years 2-4 to even out that lower 1st year) but those two $30m seasons were options; $20m buyout in year 5, $10m in year 6. He rightfully choose the full guaranteed contract.Lane wrote:Yeah, it's interesting. If I had an open corner spot, I'd have made a bigger push. Would have loved to roll with an OF of Ramos, Pearce, Salazar and go with a studly IF defense (Gonzales, Braun, Chavez), but couldn't pull the trigger on all $160 million guaranteed.

I'm pretty damn excited about my OF right now and the future of it. Between the 3 I have and Anderson on the way.
