What an upside down season it's been so far for your Charm City Jimmies. Going into the month of June the Jimmies were a game under .500 sitting at 27-28 while over 4 games behind in the Atlantic Division. Thanks to a torrid June record of 19-8 we've moved into 1st place for the first time this season.
Big Trade Baby!
I've been busy so this is the first time I've been able to write about this. We acquired defensive wizard SS: Sammy 'Bumper' McNeill along with prospect UTIL: Enver Kusçu in a trade from Nashville for prospects SP: Sam Landry, SP: Mark 'Bender' Lolololo, and former first rounder 1B: Máximo Littlefield. This was a huge ballsy trade for us. It was huge in the sense that we acquired arguably the most complete shortstop in the league. Ballsy because Lolololo is a bonafide ace if he can develop and stay healthy, Landry is a solid middle of the rotation guy if he develops, and Littlefield could be a scary bat with a little more seasoning. Also when the trade was made McNeill had not yet been signed to an extension. Since the trade McNeill took about 4 weeks before deciding he'd like to stay in Charm City and we gave him a 6 year 71.1 million dollar extension. We're not pumped. The trade almost got hung up due to me insisting on Kuscu being added to the deal from Nashville. You might be asking yourself "Is he high?" when saying that. The answer was no. If we couldn't sign McNeill I felt that we were losing a lot of talent for possibly a 1 year rental. Koscu at least has shown some progress offensively and is also a player who projects to be a super utility guy. I love super utility guys if you couldn't tell already.
Draft:
I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the draft. We selected late and there wasn't much talent available when we were up. In the first round we selected OF: Julián 'The Dance' Cassidy. What caught our eye with Cassidy was two things. We loved his ability to work the count and our scouts have noticed him take some steps forward the last 2 years developmentally. He's still got some work to do if he wants to see the field in Charm City, but we're cautiously optimistic.
Looking Ahead:
I'm hopeful that our offense can continue to turn things around. Some guys like 3B: Pepe 'Bloviater' Espinosa, DH: Joe 'Sloth' Melucci, and CF: Arvin Duggan have struggled offensively this year. If we're going to win the division and try to make some noise in the playoffs these guys have to step their games up or Markus Math will have to reverse it's course.
I'm excited to see how SP: Héctor Silva finishes up the 2054 campaign. Silva has started just 14 games in his big league career and has 10 wins. I'm cautiously optimistic in what the future holds for that young man.

I love that you were able to pull off that trade. Not sure how it will work out but the fact that June has been so good making the deal makes more sense. Good stuff!

Instant regret with that trade, but he wasn't gonna re-sign with me and with our record I don't think that was gonna change. Glad to get something back, but I'm definitely missing that defense up the middle. Working out great for you!

Duggan looks to be turning things around with an OPS over 1.000 in June.

I think you’re seeing his spring stats. Maybe he needs to be hitting against some kids who should be bagging groceries.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:14 pmDuggan looks to be turning things around with an OPS over 1.000 in June.
