Warehouse Wire 2045.06: There are people who didn't vote for Bill Constable as the JL Gillstrom
8 people don't believe Bill Constable is the JL Gillstrom Award winner. We assumed one was the GM of Phoenix Sean Marko, but seeing as no Talons received 1st place votes, he may of voted for the CJ hurler. So again, 8 people who didn't vote him as the winner. 8 people who are wrong.
We've run down what Constable has done this year. It was a case to be made that he is being overlooked as a Nebraska candidate. And of course as predicted, he is despite being one of the more dominant SP's in the league as a RP and SP. Okay. Fine. But not voting for him to be the Gillstrom? Now, that's ridiculous.
Okay, I know. He's going to win the award. Of course barring this article rubbing some people the wrong way and it causing votes to be changed. But it really isn't close. Nobody else in the JL should be getting 1st place votes. Want to go bay WAR? He was worth more combined thanGerald Sizemore, who finished 2nd out of all rookies with 3.3 WAR, and Vegas' Carlos Fernández who's 2.8 WAR seems to somehow have gotten him 6 first place votes. Constable again more than doubled up these guys, finishing with 6.9 WAR.
WAR not your fancy? Okay what about the JL leader board? Not just for rookies, but for all players. Those 2 are anywhere on there. Neither is Kade Lebowski, the other player in the JL who's received a vote.
Constable? Well it was highlighted in the article above at that point in the season, but let's list where he finished:
ERA - 3.04 - 4th
K's - 272 - 2nd
K/9 - 14.3 - 1st
Hit/9 - 6 - 1st
OPP Avg - 0.189 - 1st
OPP Slg - 0.289 - 1st
OPP OPS - 0.566 - 1st
WAR - 6.9 - 5th.
So he was all over the leader board in a season the other candidates weren't. And he's not unanimous? Something doesn't add up. Maybe some GM's of the BBA aren't as astute as one thought.

i have a sneaking suspicion at least half of those were people who voted for hitters only because they didnt realize there was a pitchers tab.

He also had zero RBI and is not a member of the Talons, two more strikes against him.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 2:49 pmi have a sneaking suspicion at least half of those were people who voted for hitters only because they didnt realize there was a pitchers tab.

And Constable is so far above all other pitchers and position players, its even more silly. If that's why you voted for you guy, yikes.

I didn't know really where to post this. But as a new UMEBA GM this past season with Manama, I've decided a goal this year is to start to acclimate myself more to the Brewster and get to know it. I figure the best way to do that is follow a team and I've chosen the Jimmies based on simply loving the name. You've gained a fan! Let's go Jimmies! If I have any thoughts as a fan though you might hear from me!

Constable was the clear choice. Just bear in mind, there were tons of rookie pitchers who produced. Not many batters.
