Warehouse Wire 2039.02: Maryland, My Maryland

Post by bcslouck » Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:49 am

Maryland is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Pennsylvania borders to the north, Delaware to the east, West Virginia and DC to the west, and Virginia to the south and west.

It's largest city is Baltimore, where the Charm City Jimmies play. It also has the city of Rockville, just north of DC, which hosts the Rockville Pikemen.

Mario Guerrer and Fernando Marquez also both play baseball in Maryland. Part of Rockville's incredible run over the last 5 years, both players hit free agency at the ripe old age of 26. Both players now play for Charm City.

Guerrer signed a 6 year $108,000,000 contract that includes a player opt-out after year 4 with team options in years 5 and 6. Marquez signed a 6 year contract worth $36,000,000. His contract also had a player opt-out after year 4 with double team options.

"We're happy to sign these two," said a beaming Brandon Slouck, GM of the Charm City Jimmies. "As we enter our next phase back into contention, what better way than to sign 2 guys who have done it. It'll be good to have these guys show the kids how to prepare and play winning baseball. Not to mentioned they are pretty good ball players too."

Reports had indicated that Charm City not only had money to spend, but may of been ready to use it. 2038 marked the first time since 2034 that the team improved it's win total, going from 61 wins to 97 (90 to 106 in 2034).

While it still remains to be seen if 2039 will be the season the team gets back into some sort of contention, the team is heading in the right direction. The farm system is getting depth it never had along with top end talent. At some point, they will be looking to move some of that talent for ML talent. In fact, they may already be doing that. With another year of having the #1 pick, the talent will only get deeper.

A rivalry seemed to start festering back when Rockville was on the come up while Charm City was still relevant, but never seemed to catch. The Jimmies fell off and Rockville took off. Despite being division rivals, they haven't played meaningful games against each other since 2034. Maybe these signings will relight the fuse? It could at least provide a spark but until Charm City starts to win games, Maryland remains Rockville's state.
