Warehouse Wire 2036.06: Bottom falls out

Post by bcslouck » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:27 am

After getting off to a surprisingly not terrible start, going 12-14 in April, things went off the rails in May as the team went 6-21 along with starting off June going 0-2.

Everyone in the organization knew this would be a down year, but April showed some optimism that it may not be as terrible as originally thought. May brought everyone back to reality real quick.

Bright spots include Carlton Winson (.264/.369/.650, 22 HR, 44 RBI) bouncing back from a "down" 2035, Sergio Maldonado (.333/.359/.475, 3 HR, 12 RBI) being a steady hitter manning 1B, and a surprise callup doing well in Alberto Robles (.296/.383/.541, 6 HR, 14 RBI). Jay-hoon Ch'oe (.276/.370/.449, 7 HR, 17 RBI) appears to also be on pace for a career year and when the young bullpen has been healthy, they didn't look to bad.

Rule 5 picks Manuel Ramirez (1 - 1, 2.96 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 24 K), Jose Salas (1 - 2, 2.95 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 16 K), and Pedro Aguilar (0 - 0, 4.82 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 20 K) all haven't been terrible either. All 3 may end up in the minors next season, but they all could be solid pieces in the teams future plans.

Injury have been part of the issue for the team. Norberto Leon (1 - 0, 4.09 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 14 K) and Fabiano Perrolas are once again injured and as the injuries pile up, the organization wonders if they'll ever be reliable arms. Luis Miguel Carrillo (.237/.326/.658, 5 HR, 13 RBI) has just come back from injury started off hot. 2035 bounce back player Byron Hearle will make his debut Tuesday night.

While the team has some talent it clearly still lacks and some of its best talent are a few years away. A deep draft managed to help the team bring in some solid talent to help add to the depth the organization has managed to put together over the last year and some change.

Word from the warehouse does indicate they aren't happy with the international prospects being found. While the scouts are finding guys that could be useful major leaguers, other organizations keep stumbling across potential superstars. Though these players are long shots, any way to get top end talent in the system is a must. Sources in the warehouse say if GM Rob Benson doesn't formulate a better plan for scouting finds in Central and South America, his job could be in jeopardy.

For now, the organization will trek on a shell of its former self, hoping to keep acquiring the players that will put the team back in contention. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
