AUSTIN, TX In a move that caught almost nobody by surprise, the Austin Shredders have announced that their Rookie League affiliate, the Mississauga Credits will be moving to Batavia, NY where they will become the Batavia Blue Bears.
GM Chuck Valenches attributed the move as an attempt to save money on toner. "Mississauga just has too many letters in it and I was sick and tired of having to look up how to spell it every time I promoted, assigned a player to or released a player from that shithole. Batavia. Seven letters. Much easier."
Batavia is about halfway between Rochester and Buffalo and just 15 miles north of Attica prison, which the Shredders claim should help motivation on the team.
Thew new team colors are a Royal Blue and cream color with a bit of white in the logo as well. The new logo features a blue bear in front of cream-colored mountains and a white full moon. Fans have been assured that there are bears and mountains somewhere nearby.
Manager Martin Beaufort will return for his sixth season as the skipper for the club and will be joined by former Jackrabbit Amos Swallows in his third go-round as the clubs pitching coach and Luis Gonzalez who will return for his sixth season as hitting coach.
With this move only the Single-A Charlesbourg Castors remain as an original Edmonton Jackrabbits affiliate, a situation that club officials also claimed would be solved by choosing another city with fewer letters. The original big league club, the Edmonton Jackrabbits, left Edmonton for the greener pastures, but with the same amount of losses, of Austin, TX prior to the 2060 season.
