An Ode to Hibernation (BBA 2058 playoffs) [PP:2058.09]
For my final Team News I’m going to drop the GM guise and speak using stream of consciousness.
It feels strange leaving but I also have no doubt it’s the right choice. The reason it feels weird as I never had a sense of tiring of the BBA or owning the Jackrabbits. To the contrary, my engagement with the team was going strong and I was really enjoying the process of the rebuild.
But ultimately it became apparent my time with the Jackrabbits was going to be limited due to my startup and I wasn’t sure how to move forward. That’s when it dawned on me … in a tangential way I am chasing my vision not unlike how Markus had when he first created OOTP. I’d have to imagine at that time his focus was singular, and he wasn’t doing much for fun in his life outside of feverishly building up OOTP. Affinity for the Jackrabbits be damned, that’s when I realized my choice was already made for me; I’d need to follow in his footsteps and commit full stop with all remaining gaming cells in my body devoted fully to my vision.
A big part of my Sir Football product will be my attempt to build a new gaming community. If I have any success in doing so, I owe a great debt to the BBA and OOTP in general in understanding how such fun-loving and loyal communities get constructed. Since the mid 90’s, I’ve on and off played in various sports gaming leagues, but I’ve never found one as kind-hearted and fervent as what Matt and you guys have built here in the BBA.
Before long I am sure I will miss the Jackrabbits, the laughs and many other things about playing in the BBA. It is going to be bittersweet for yours truly as a South Dakota denizen who is constantly surrounded by SDSU/Edmonton Jackrabbits logos and colors as a continual reminder of the team I had to step away from.
I probably won’t have the time to lurk that I’d like to have. I do want to see Scooter SCIII get inducted in the HOF someday. I’d love to see if this young pitching core and Spork make some noise in the coming years. I have a sense the next owner of the Jackrabbits is going to crush it and address my blind spots. At the very least, I think I’ve left him an interesting team to work with.
As my launch date gets closer, I’ll be sure to return and plug my business. I’m hoping that several of you may be interesting in being customers or providing valuable feedback. The mission of Sir Football is to bring more gaming elements into fantasy football to make it a more immersive experience not unlike OOTP. I think that people who have the heart of a gamer in general will fit right it with what I want to do.

I’m glad I got to compete with you in the league. I enjoyed learning more about you in your podcast episode with Ron as well. I hope your fantasy football business really takes off.
