Let Them Eat Keg (Hoppy Endings, pre Sim 19) [PP:2056.12]

The worst win-loss record that Edmonton has seen in many years is having many consequences. Attendance and ticket revenue are in sharp decline, as fan interest reaches new lows. But that didn’t stop management from executing a trade of popular rotation leader Mahad “Furball” Einan.

The Jackrabbits sent the ultra-reliable innings eater to Las Vegas for a pair of lesser pitchers to match salary (Jose Martinez and John Rasmussen III) and also received a package of prospects, including promising pitchers Nasuh Kurtbek and Edward Joseph Pfeffer. This trade could help Edmonton down the road, but is a clear sign things are going nowhere for the present.

That’s what led to more fallout ensuing. Fans of the team were unhappy to hear GM Mike Bauer rebuff fans’ criticism of the trade with his tweet “Let Them Eat Keg”. Many were not appreciative or perceptive of Bauer’s snide sense of humor, one which seems to be referencing the major increase in alcohol sales by the reduced number of fans still in attendance.

Given Edmonton’s Frontier-worst team ERA of 5.56 (only Brooklyn is worse in the Johnson) and Bauer’s insistence on keeping struggling starter Roman “Steel Claw” Rodriguez in the rotation, it’s understandable why Jackrabbits fans are drinking away their sorrows.

Help is likely on the way in September, when it’s expected that top prospects SP Glenn Hargrove and two-way sensation Brent “Spork” Gilbert - and perhaps others - will receive September callups and perhaps serious consideration for playing time in 2057. But will the fans in their inebriated state have enough cognitive function left to notice?
