Castors Win Pegler, Make Franchise History (Hoppy Endings, pre Sim 27) [PP:2055.22]

Even with the major league squad mired in a 7-game losing streak and very nearly mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the Jackrabbits front office has something to feel very jubilant about. It took ten innings, but on last Friday evening the Charlesbourg Castors overcame the Pahrump Ranchers (a Las Vegas affiliate) to win the first-ever minor league championship in the history of the Edmonton franchise.

Aspirations for the Pegler League title perked up this year with the introduction of the age limits in the BBA minor leagues. With A-ball Pegler teams now sporting a maximum age of 25 years, the Toledo Liberty could no longer field their usual team of 30-something prospect-killers and cruise to 105+ games. Instead, Charlesbourg overcame the 92-win Liberty in the first round best of 3 series and then carried that momentum all the way to the championship.

Considering the Jackrabbits’ recent struggles, Edmonton GM Mike Bauer was more than happy to gush about the Castors and even the minor league system of Edmonton as a whole.

“Our AAA Tucson Inferno finished with a respectable 77-67 record in a very tough division. And all our other minor league teams below them all made the playoffs. With the championship brought home by the Castors to top it off, this was easily the most successful season for the Edmonton farm system in franchise history. When the OSA sends you their minor league system ranking report and they have us ranked 23rd, just remember what OSA really stands for: Often Sh***y Analysis. Or is it Only Sucks A**?”

“It’s a crime that we only have two supposed top-100 players, and SP Roman Rodriguez all the way down at #99. Two-way prospect Brent Gilbert carried the Castors in 2055 and is a top 20 prospect in our eyes. We plan to have at least 3 players make their rookie debut in Edmonton early in the 2056 season, and even with that we still feel very good about our minor league talent. We expect our AA team the Monarchs to prosper next year, as several of the Castors have certainly proven themselves and will graduate up to AA, if not higher.”

"As for the Castors in 2056? We have a little logo change coming up. The bat on the beaver will no longer read 'Charlesbourg'. It will now read 'Champions'!"

For more about the BBA minor league stars of 2055, be sure to read the annual “Of Minor Importance” section in the upcoming BBA Media Guide. This year’s edition will almost surely feature a few Edmonton affiliate selections - and not just due to the fact that the Edmonton is involved with it's publication.
