Fresh Fur: Jackrabbits Add Young Arms Turner, Forrest (Hoppy Endings, pre Sim 3) [PP:2055.09]

Last week Edmonton fortified the pitching prospects in their farm, adding Omaha pitchers Floyd Turner and Keith Forrest. In exchange, Edmonton dealt last year’s first round pick LF Jorge Delgado, A level pitcher Snicker O’Connolly and AAA DH Yo Miyamoto.

Attentive Jackrabbits fans were upset to see the team deal away a young future star hitter in Delgado. Delgado, who is only 17, is showing great ability in the lower minors and could eventually be an All-Star corner outfielder. Thus, GM Mike Bauer explained the move in a brief statement.

“We used our first round draft pick on Delgado for a reason. He’s a great young hitter. But we’ve got some other right-handed outfields in our system to help offset the loss. 4th round pick RF Bob Pope is also a solid hitter and fielder who can help us. And our 3rd round pick from 2052 Brent Gilbert really factored into it. He is one of our starting pitchers but can play both ways and he’s been developing very well as a hitter and outfielder. Based on his progress, We think there is a good shot he can be a two-way player at the BBA level.”

“Floyd Turner has some nice upside and as a Rule V player we will use him in long relief and allow him to slowly learn the ropes. And we’re excited to add Keith Forrest, who is a very sound pitching prospect. Our powerhouse rotation in A-ball with Forrest, Gilbert and Glenn Hargrove is certainly a glimpse into the future.”

Keith Forrest already has a family member on the team. His elder cousin Marcus Forrest is currently with Edmonton as the team’s fifth starter. It’s somewhat possible the two cousins could play on the same major league team together someday. But for now Keith will continue to expand on his promise in the minors. He was originally drafted in the 22nd round by San Antonio in 2048. In 2054, the Outlaws surprisingly let him leave in minor league free agency and Omaha snatched him up with a handsome signing bonus. Keith had started two games for the A-level Mankato Moondogs and won them both prior to the trade.

Floyd Turner was drafted in the 2nd round in 2048 by Boise at the young age of 16. He developed nicely in the minors, but was traded to Sacramento for cash last season. Omaha then selected Turner in the 4th round of the Rule V draft. Now a member of the Jackrabbits, Turner will fill the long relief role formerly held by 42-year-old Hao Kun who had been waived due to diminishing skills. The Jackrabbits likely will look a lot younger in upcoming seasons.

I was so annoyed on second glance that his name isn’t “Hao Kum”.
