Baby Bunnies - 2054 (R) Mississauga Credits (Hoppy Endings, pre-sim 21) [PP:2054.27]

The 2054 Spike Nolan Rookie league regular season is wrapped up for Edmonton's affiliate, the Mississauga Credits. The team finished 31-37, third in their division and missed the playoffs.

Next year the team hopes to perform better with the new BBA rule set enforcing an age-limit of 21 at the R-level. And yet, this season was not without it's bright spots on the Credits. There were several nice individual performances to call out. Here are some prospects you might be wise to keep an eye on (in no particular order):

SS Eddy Fletcher - This switch-hitting middle infielder was drafted in 2054 by Sacramento but couldn't make the cut on the Popes farm and was released. Edmonton then swooped in and offered Fletcher a $23k bonus to join the Jackrabbits farm system. Fletcher accepted, and then proceeded to hit .261/.352/.457 in 107 plate appearances. His defense was respectable, but his biggest asset is speed and bunting. The 17-year old will need to continue to hit respectably to stay on board, but he's off to a better start than was anticipated.

LF Jorge Delgado - After some consternation regarding the finances, Edmonton inevitably decided to pony up and pay their 8th overall draft pick a $4.95 million bonus to leave high school baseball and begin his training in rookie ball. With that major investment, the 16-year old Delgado looks like he could become the real deal eventually if 2054 is any indication. With a .347/.412/.514 line and 152 OPS+ in 278 plate appearances, Delgado helped power the Credits to a good number of their wins. Edmonton seems determined not to rush the young phenom though. Reports indicate that the organization intends to keep him in rookie ball until he reaches age 19.

C Sixto Machado - Hailing from Puerto Rico, Machado joined Edmonton as an affordable international free agent. He signed for $900k and remained in the international complex for a few seasons. But in 2054 Edmonton cleared a roster spot for Sixto to contribute. He hit well (.301/.380/.423) and earned the bulk of playing time behind the plate. He has a major league eye and his defense is solid. But he will need to become a better contact hitter if he hopes to reach the majors. But at age 20 he still has time to work on that. There's a good chance he will advance Short A in 2055.

RP Qian Fu-Zhuan - The Jackrabbits' 2054 12th round selection is being brought along slowly and thus far has been serving as a long reliever. He is a long-term project but his 2054 numbers don't show it. He posted a 1.88 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 43 innings. Based on those numbers, he might get a chance to start in rookie ball next season.

RP Mike Reusch - This right-hander, drafted in the 14th round in 2054, held his own in relief and posted a 4.08 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. This 16-year old still needs a lot of development to climb the ranks in the minors but on a pitching staff that was mostly roughed up he proved fairly serviceable.

RP Benedikt Krook - This lefty reliever drafted in 9th round of the 2054 draft didn't perform as badly as it may have appeared. He went 3-2 with 4 holds and 2 saves sporting a 4.93 ERA and 1.73 WHIP. But his BABIP was way up there at .397. With better luck, he should justify his selection and spot in the Edmonton system as a much-needed left relief option.
