When Edmonton GM Mike Bauer drafted 1B/DH Ed Pray in the 13th round of the 2054 BBA draft, they were merely looking to upgrade that spot in the lower minors and release other prospects that were not performing. But Bauer did not anticipate the stir that Pray would create in the Angela Drake League.

In just 52 games as a minor league rookie, Pray has terrorized opposing pitchers. He currently holds a .418 average with 15 doubles, 11 homers, 61 RBI and a 1.124 OPS for the Short A La Paz Toppers. His hitting prowess has captivated Toppers fans and has taken the fun-loving Drake League by storm. La Paz is currently a solid 32-26 team behind Pray and the might of top pitching prospect Glenn Hargrove.

Latching onto Ed's success, sound operators at La Paz home games started to play MC Hammer's "Pray" when the slugger's turn at the plate arrived. This led to the unexpectedly athletic Pray learning the MC Hammer dance and showcasing it with teammates in the clubhouse and posting it to TikTok. The post went viral and the song has now become an anthem for the team and to an extent BBA minor league baseball in general. The song has even entered the Billboard Top 40 for the first time since late 1990.



Jackrabbits GM Mike Bauer commented on Pray's success and the sensation around him. "It's been exciting to watch. Ed's hitting has been spectacular and I look forward to seeing him continue to develop. MC Hammer himself was a part of the game of baseball in his youth so it all kind of comes full circle."

At some point, Pray's hitting may come back down to Earth. But for now, things are heavenly.
