Disabled Lycanthropy (Hoppy Endings, post sim 10) [PP:2054.19]

June 9th 2954 was a rough night for Edmonton. Not only did the Jackrabbits get whalloped by the Spuds 7-0, they also lost their ace pitcher Chris "Wolf" Moran to an ankle injury.

At the top of the 3rd, with a full count and a runner on first, Moran stumbled on his follow through and his ankle touched the infield dirt. He immediately collapsed to the ground and grabbed his ankle in agony while the Jackrabbits training staff came out to attend to Moran. The normally calm manager Alonso Chavez raged in the dugout. "F***! F***!!! F***ing F***!!!" as the home crowd that fell silent probably heard him.

Moran, with 6 wins, a 3.24 ERA and a 2.7 rWAR, had been well on his way to receiving plenty of all-star votes in the Johnson league for the first time. Instead, he'll probably have to begin his rehab stint about the time the all-star festivities occur. GM Mike Bauer lamented the loss the day after, when tests revealed a high sprain that would shut Moran down for at least 6 weeks.

"We'll miss the Wolf. He was pitching so well and it really stinks to lose him. As a team and as a staff though, we will collectively play hard for Chris until he comes back."

When asked about Moran's spot in the rotation, Bauer replied, "We're going to elevate Peter Roop from AAA, who pitched well for us in the majors last year. For now we are going with a veteran, rather than try to put that pressure on a younger starter. All Roop did for us last year is throw a perfect game, so we know that when he's hot he's as good as anyone out there."

Moran's recovery process will be closely watched by many as the veteran is a free agent following this season, and up to this point the righty has indicated he wishes to test the market.
