The Robin Killer (Hoppy Endings, 2053 Sim 17) [PP:2053.10]

For all of his career, [https://statsplus.net/brewster/team/420]Edmonton pitcher Peter Roop had always heard "Just throw strikes. Stay ahead in the count. You don't have to be perfect." But on one Saturday evening at home, July 26, 2053, Peter defied the odds and advice-be-damned was indeed perfect through nine innings against the [https://statsplus.net/brewster/team/1]Brooklyn Robins.

"It means a lot to me," said Roop after the game. "There are a lot of great pitchers past and present in the BBA and GBC. A great deal of them never managed to throw a perfect game. I give a great amount of credit to my catcher (Alberto Rodriguez) for keeping me focused and calm. And the defense played so well behind me, particularly Bell and Korbel up the middle. Every time I saw a groundball whizzing on the grass, I know those two had my back. All the guys in the field played well. It takes a village."

Roop was indeed dominant and very accurate. The only Robins hitter to get to 3 balls on Roop was 1B Raul Fernandez in the top of the 8th. Fernandez managed to get to a full count and fouled off a few pitches, but Roop prevailed and got Fernandez to whiff on a nasty slider.

Roop only needed 90 pitches to retire all 27 batters in the game. He'll surely be well rested and ready to go for his next start, which is slated to be final game of a road series against first-place Las Vegas - a much more difficult test.

"For a guy just promoted from AAA who hadn't started in the bigs for a few years, he showed incredible composure," stated pitching coach Peter Roberts, effusive in his praise of Roop. "This is kind of pitching we need in Edmonton to help the team over time get above .500 and fight for a playoff spot. We're hoping he can keep this up and I think he can. Between him and Gary Owens, this is the kind of young competitive pitching we need in our rotation for years to come."

General manager Mike Bauer was also enthusiastic about the accomplishment.

"The game ball has been secured and our curators will be making it a prominent part of our brand new team hall of fame. Maybe opening up the Grand Wilderness hall provided some good karma for this milestone event to occur this season. The Brewster gods are happy with the Jackrabbits!"
