On April 15th, the Jackrabbits hosted Calgary and many extra fans were in attendance to witness a special night for former Jackrabbits stopper/closer Jorge Huerta. The Dominican made a grand entrance running onto the field and hugging many Jackrabbits current and former. He hurled the game's first pitch to a standing ovation. Then owner Jim Leonard took the microphone to honor Huerta.

"Jorge, far and away, you are the best relief pitcher to ever wear a Jackrabbits uniform. Your number #16 hangs proudly from our left-field wall, a reminder of your great resilience and ability to deliver for our franchise in the clutch. Your 2040 season will never be forgotten in the BBA annals - a spectacular season where you recorded 20 wins and 27 saves in 162 innings of relief. (loud applause). More importantly, the 3 championships you were such a big part of will never be forgotten. For your commitment and excellence for our organization, I am proud to present to you, enshrinement into The Grand Wilderness and our second ever Golden Carrot."

Waving to the crowd amid substantial applause, Huerta put the Golden Carrot in his mouth and smiled wildly. A man of few words, he refused to take the microphone, he instead took time to wave to all sections of the crowd.

Apart from the enshrinement ceremony, the night was an eventful one for Edmonton. Young lefty Gary Owens gave the team 7.1 strong innings of pitching, but Calgary and Edmonton remained in a 2-2 stalemate at the end of 9 innings. New DH Gonzalo Martinez put an end to the tie and hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win.
