The Jackrabbits may have dropped their home opener by a score of 7-5 to the Crawdads on April 8, but that loss was overshadowed by the festivities on the field.

The loudspeakers were cranked and playing Iron Maiden's "The Trooper", as former Jackrabbits ace Jumal Troop came out on the field for a minutes long standing ovation. The giant lefty then threw the first pitch of the game, and it wasn't the ordinary first pitch. Troop unloaded a 10-to-6 curveball that went into the dirt and surely would have struck out a number of BBA hitters even today. Catcher Alberto Rodriguez fielded the ball and handed it back to the big man and gave him a hearty handshake.

Owner Jim Leonard then took the microphone and addressed the near-sellout crowd. "Tonight we are honoring an all-time great Jackrabbit. During his 7 years with Edmonton, this man pitched over 5 million innings for us (laughs). Or so it would seem. Jumal is a man who so many times put the team on his back and gave us his all. His Edmonton career included 15 complete games and 5 shutouts. On his hand I see he is wearing two very special rings, for two very special years - 2038 and 2041 (applause). To this day, Mr. Troop leads our franchise in total wins - 110 - and total strikeouts - 1412. He has set the bar so high for our current and future pitchers. Surely Jumal has been enshrined into the Grand Wilderness, and those choosing to make their way through it's rocky trails will then find a statue of this man, towering over all others. Today, it is my honor to present the first-ever Golden Carrot to one Mr. Jubal Troop!" (long applause)

Leonard then embraced the 6'9" Troop and handed him the Golden Carrot and the microphone. Waiting for the applause to die down, Troop spoke to the Edmonton faithful. "Man it's good to be back here. I have enjoyed my time in the BBA with other teams, but playing in Edmonton was special. I was blessed to share with you that 2041 season, the best of my career, where I had a lot of great teammates behind me. They are the ones to helped me get to the 21-win mark, and I'm glad we were able to capitalize on that success and win a second championship. I have so many people to thank, and not enough time. To everyone that helped along the way, I love you all. I don't want to take up much more time. Let's play some baseball!!!"
