The Grand Wilderness: Edmonton Jackrabbits Hall of Fame

Post by neugey » Sun Nov 27, 2022 11:28 am

Established in 2053 at the start of the Jackrabbits' 25th BBA season, owner Jim Leonard is proud to announce the Grand Wilderness, the official Edmonton Jackrabbits Hall of Fame. The Hall has four inaugural inductees to be enshrined in 2053. Other franchise greats may also receive induction in years to come.

The Grand Wilderness is a unique team hall of fame in the BBA and perhaps all of sports. It is located at the end of a hiking trail in Elk Island National Park in Edmonton, Alberta. The curated outdoor shrine features plaques and statues of each of its members, and is open to visitors in accordance with park hours. "Most franchises seek to leave the wilderness to order to find success," stated Edmonton owner Jim Leonard. "Not the Jackrabbits. We thrive in the wilderness, and only the greatest of our players will be honored in the woodlands at this serene and historic site."

In addition to enshrinement in the Grand Wilderness, team Hall of Fame inductees are to be honored with a Golden Carrot ceremony at a select home game at the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Field.

2053 Inductions:

SP Jubal Troop, 2038-2044 Edmonton Jackrabbits
This Jackson, Wyoming native first appeared in the BBA major-league level in 2032 and was acquired by Edmonton for the 2038 season. From 2038 through 2044, Troop was an absolute workhorse for the Jackrabbits rotation, pitching an average of nearly 215 innings in each of his 7 seasons with the team. He is the all-time franchise leader in Wins (110), Winning Percentage (.643), Innings Pitched (1503.1) and Strikeouts (1412). He recorded a composite 3.93 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP during his tenure with the Jackrabbits. Troop was instrumental part of two Jackrabbits' championship teams in 2038 and 2041, and was a 5-time All-Star for his career. He won a Steve Nebraska award in 2033 while with the Montreal Blazers. He was a left-handed pitched with an incredible curveball and devastating movement on his pitches. He was drafted in 2028 at age 17 by Montreal. and retired from the BBA in 2047.
Golden Carrot Ceremony: April 8, 2053 (2053 home opener vs New Orleans)

CL Jorge Huerta, 2036-2045 Edmonton Jackrabbits
The Dominican-born Jorge Huerta was an organization-changing closer for the Edmonton Jackrabbits who helped propel the team to three championships. Huerta was drafted by Edmonton in 2034 with the 1st pick in the 3rd round (68th overall). He made a brief major league debut in 2036, and in 2037 took the closer job outright and never looked back. He accrued a heavy amount of innings during his years with the Jackrabbits and was more of an old-school stopper than a closer. In 2040 he recorded 20 wins and 27 saves as a reliever, something that will likely never be acheived again in the BBA. He is the Jackrabbits career leader in Saves (198) and Games Pitched (689). During his tenure with Edmonton, he compiled a 3.73 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over 1190.2 innings. He retired from baseball in 2051, and is the only member of the Jackrabbits to have his number retired. #16 proudly hangs from the left field deck at the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Field today.

3B Steven Collins III, 2036-2047 Edmonton Jackrabbits

After a cup of coffee in 2036, SC3 began his career in earnest in 2037 and immediately became a fixture at the hot corner. He was an important contributor to three Jackrabbits' BBA Championships. He indeed stepped up in post-season play, earning two Doubleday MVP awards. He won two gold gloves during his Edmonton tenure, and also participated in 5 All-Star games. He won two Golden Bat awards at 3B in 2041 and 2042. He is the Jackrabbits all-time leader in cumulative WAR (51.2), at-bats (7236), runs (7945), hits (2239), total bases (3397), singles (1566) and stolen bases (569), and also the franchise single-season WAR leader (6.9, 2038). In 2041, he had a rookie campaign for the ages, leading the league in doubles (67) and RBI (167) while batting .330 in 161 games. He contributed to two Jackrabbits' BBA championship, and was named a Geoghegan MVP twice. He also made the All-Star team twice during his Edmonton tenure. He is the Jackrabbits career leader in slugging percentage (.552), OPS (.909), home runs (245) and RBI (1010).
