Fresh Fur, Part 6: Backstops (Hoppy Endings, SP sim 3) [PP:2052.08]

Under the new management of GM Mike Bauer, the Jackrabbits have completely redone their catcher personnel for 2052. Let's take a look at the new backstops acquired:

- Alberto Rodriguez - The Jackrabbits went in hot pursuit of the big lefty free agent from Nashville and weren't afraid to commit the money. They signed Rodriguez to a 3-year contract at 34.2 million total, with the last year being a player option. The highly regarded catcher, now at age 31, has 5 All-Star selections and 5 Puckett Golden Bats on his resume. "It was important for us to have a front-line catcher that can hit right-handed pitching well, and that usually means having a lefty." explained Bauer. "He's also pretty solid defensively and one of the most popular catchers in the entire BBA. He's also a very good doubles hitter, which is an underrated asset."

- Toshikazu Noguchi - The Japanese right-hander had a stint with Edmonton from 2044-2045 and won a Landis with the Jackrabbits. Noguchi lacks power and is not all that good at hitting for average, but has a reliable eye to draw walks. He signed for a reasonable $960,000 and will be the right-handed complement to Rodriguez. He's spent the last few years in AAA, so the Jackrabbits are hoping he feels counted out and has a chip on his shoulder.

- Juan Noriega - Like Rodriguez, Noriega also excels at lashing doubles. The Jackrabbits only plan to carry only two catchers, so Noriega will slot at AAA and be the first man up should any injury occur to Rodriguez or Noguchi. He signed a majors/minors contract that will pay him at an 880k clip is he is promoted to the majors. He's seen regular playing time with Calgary at the BBA level since 2047, so his experience will be beneficial no matter if stays at AAA or is needed in the bigs.

You should have a decent crew behind the plate if they remain healthy.
