Welcome to the first installment of Fresh Fur, where we look at new additions to the Edmonton Jackrabbits roster. Whether by free agency or draft, the Jackrabbits are forging ahead and hoping to improve upon their sad 65-97 2051 record and last place finish in the Johnson Frontier division.

The first major free agent to sign with the Jacks was Chris Moran. The 30-year old starting pitcher was a longtime Nashville hurler, but last year spent small stints with GBC Cairo and Las Vegas. He signed a 3 year, $18 million dollar deal, with the last year being a team option. Edmonton is hoping the righty will provide a steadying veteran presence to the rotation in 2052.

The next major league free agent signing is a reunion. 3B Robert Puente opted to return to Edmonton on a 1-year $1.9 million dollar contract. He made $3.6 million last year with the Jackrabbits. The 31-year old is very steady defensively and generates enough contact to survive at the BBA level. It remains to be seen whether Puente will get a lot of starts or will slot into a utility infielder role.

Other than those two signings things have been fairly quiet. There have been some minor league free agent additions, most notably AAA SP/RP Salmund Adlersparre. But the big fireworks are likely yet to come.

Loved The Wolf and he had a great run in Nashville. Expected him to be there a long time, but had some young talent coming up and he was on a bad year so had to release him. Best of luck.

You outbid me for Moran…he was the one starter in free agency that I thought was a good value relative to his asking price. I should have gone higher to start. I think he’ll be a bargain for you.
