THE Jack 2051.1: Jack(ed up) Pitching

THE Jack
1 Apr 2051
Edmonton, Alberta
**********************************

The Jackrabbits face another uphill climb, or downward descent, in 2051 (yes, things could get worse than 2050). There hasn't been much if anything that's changed from a 2050 season where pitching was the relatively brightest part of the season. Relatively.

Departed
In a money-related move both significant losses from 2050 were dealt to the Charlotte Cougars:
CL Cristián Chávez (61 G, 21 SV, 0.94 ERA, +2.6 WAR)
P Harry Raymond (35 G, 7 GS, 4.19 ERA, +0.5 WAR)

2051 Season Rotation
There are a few options outside of the opening 5-man rotation but opening day will look something like this...

R 31yo Armando Feliciano: "Commie Child" is the highest paid player on the squad and he's in a walk year so he needs to put up some solid numbers. (EDM: 42 G, 27 GS, 4.33 ERA, +0.8 WAR)
R Hatitosa Sandipan: Sandipan rocketed to the bigs after starting at AA. He could have a solid career ahead of him but it won't include this year as he suffered a torn rotator cuff in Spring Training and will miss the 2051 season. (EDM: 7 G, 6 GS, 2.08 ERA, +0.6 WAR)
L 27yo Gabriel Soto: (EDM: 32 G, 32 GS, 4.77 ERA, +0.9 WAR)
R 27yo Grux Parks: (EDM: 56 G, 2 GS, 2.98 ERA, +0.5 WAR)
L 23yo Claudio García: In one of the rare offseason moves made by GM Ben Teague, García was claimed off waivers from Atlantic City. He'll get the chance right away to start settling in a ML rotation. (ATC AAA: 24 G, 24 GS, 3.38 ERA, +3.1 WAR)
R 33yo Niccolo Destefani: (EDM: 38 G, 25 GS, 6.34 ERA, -0.9 WAR)

2051 Bullpen
This picture is almost certain to change drastically all season with the departure of Chávez and Raymond...

CL
R 24yo Juan Santana: Santana is no Cristián Chávez, but he'll get first crack. (EDM: 18 G, 4 SV, 5.74 ERA, -0.4 WAR)

SU
R 25yo Carlos Rodda: Rodda is in this spot mainly because he's the 2nd best RHP and Teague prefers a R/L combo in setup roles. (EDM: 54 G, 2.93 ERA, +0.2 WAR)
L 27yo Greg Milley: (EDM: 80 G, 3.87 ERA, +0.6 WAR)

R 25yo Lance Barrett: Barrett has quite a way to fill his potential, but he still turned in a solid 2050. The leash may not be too long, though. (EDM: 34 G, 3.51 ERA, -0.5 WAR)
L 26yo Bill Young: Young is a lefty. And I guess he had a solid year in AAA last season. (AAA: 34 G, 3.19 ERA, +0.7 WAR)
R 26yo Ramón Mendoza: Here's a guy who certainly deserves the chance in the bigs after a solid 2050 in Winnipeg (AAA: 28 G, 1.44 ERA, +0.9 WAR)
L 22yo Gary Owens: Owens could be in Rodda's place in a setup role but, as mentioned, Teague prefers a R/L combo at that spot. (AA: 26 G, 25 GS, 2.91 ERA, +4.1 WAR)

2051 Bit Parts
Other guys that will almost definitely poke their heads up in Edmonton this season include
RHP Martin Villa
LHP Jim Pollock
LHP Manny Baca
LHP Joe Thistle
RHP Alex Tazewell
Ben Teague, GM Boise Spuds
2682-3175, .457 PCT (5,857 games, 36 seasons)
11 Playoff Appearances, 1 Championship
