Acquired from the Bobby Lynch deal, Myeong-hwan Kim is our first dive into what we received from the deal. He's spent nearly all of his time in the minors covering right field, but he has decent fielding ratings in the outfield at 7/9/7, so he can probably play anywhere in the outfield and be okay. He's rated 7 in right field, though he looks like a better fit for left. Kim is from Pyongyang, North Korea as well, so apparently in this universe the country isn't as oppressive if someone can make it to the big stage of the BBA.
He signed with Boise as an international amateur in 2036 for two million. He was named the 89th best prospect in the league at the time and it's because his high contact rating at 10 when he was signed. He's had a steady climb through the minors until the whirlwind that was his 2039 season. First, I should say, that he's down to an 8 contact rating today and his complete ratings are 8/9/1/3/7 with 8/9/2/3/10 potentials. He has 10 speed, 9 stealing and 10 baserunning too, so he should be able to extend a lot of hits which he will have a lot of if he can get his avoid K's rating to 10. He's a lefty who has a superior split against righties and he's rated 9/9/2/3/8 against them. Which means, if he can fill out his potentials, we could see a 9/9/3/3/11 hitter against RHP.
His crazy 2039 season has seen him dealt twice. From Boise to Calgary in the deal which saw Boise procure Vodak's services and then from Calgary to Edmonton 14 days later in the deal that sent Lynch away. I gave him the bump to AAA despite only moderate success in AA Buffalo from his time with Boise. In Buffalo he batted .271/.307/.436 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 4 homeruns in 133 at bats. With the promotion to AAA Winnipeg, Kim has seen time in each minor league level this season.

It will be interesting to see how he turns out. He was going to be blocked in my system and I would have had to expose him in the draft. However, while he was a minor part of the deal this guy could turn into a pretty good player.

Yeah, I think he's solid. If he had even slightly higher power and/or eye I think he's be a very very good player, but as is I think he'll be solid. Not sure where he fits in just yet, but I'm really interested in finding out.indiansfan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 10:17 amIt will be interesting to see how he turns out. Same reason why I dealt him for Bakitski. I think he has a future, at a minimum, as a 4th OF and pinch hitter/runner for a playoff team or he could start in a platoon for a second-division club.indiansfan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 10:17 amHe was going to be blocked in my system and I would have had to expose him in the draft.

Or he'll hit .350 as a platoon guy against RHP and swipe about 50 bags a year. Won't have a lofty OBP but I love me some guys like this. Obviously. I'd probably pay him tons of money to watch him push for 3,000 hits.

When you get settled into Portland, give me a call. I have about four other Myeong-hwan's in my system and I think at least one of them would look great in red-and-black lumberjack plaid.
