The dust is starting to settle after the trade that shook Edmonton residents to their core. Bobby Lynch was traded to the Calgary Pioneers for a package of prospects. Lynch started his career in Edmonton and many fans thought he couldn't possibly play for another team. Not only is he going to play for another team, not only is he staying in the division now, but he's also staying in the division after the expansion. Fans were not pleased. As Lynch gears up for another run in the playoffs with Calgary, the Jackrabbits will start to look towards the future with a growing list of interesting prospects.
In this series I will take an in-depth look at my top 15 prospects and detail what role they may play in the Jackrabbits' future. Today we will take a look at left fielder, Julio Uribe.
Uribe begins the list of high contact outfielders. He was picked by the Jackrabbits with the 13th pick in round 4 of the 2038 draft. The deep draft showcased a lot of great talent coming out of high school. Uribe was no different hitting .394/.439/.613 in 160 at bats in high school when he was 17 years old. His potentials were rated 9/9/4/4/9 with 4/11/7 ratings in the outfield. His high school success didn't translate to professional success for him though. He hit only .188 in 80 at bats in rookie league after getting drafted. It wasn't until this season that he started to see any growth.
He entered the 2039 season with a 4 contact rating. He improved his stats in the rookie league batting in 105 at bats and hitting .312/.390/.581 with 11 doubles, a triple and four homeruns. He bumped to 6 contact, so the Jackrabbits moved him up to the Sunshine League's A team, Lima Patos. Upon getting promoted he immediately bumped to 7 contact, so the next sim he was moved to single A Charlesbourg Castors. He was challenged in his first sim only hitting 5/23 with a double, triple and a homerun.
Looking into the future, Uribe stands at 7/8/4/4/5 as of August 2039 with 9/9/4/4/9 potentials and needs to improve on his 2 rating in left field. I will project that he could be seen at some point in the 2040 season if he keeps progressing the way he is, but it's not likely. At 18 years old, he has plenty of time to develop and the Jackrabbits are not in a rush with three productive outfielders in John Garcia, Mitch Dalrymple and William Wood. However, Dalrymple's last year of arbitration is in 2040. It's difficult to imagine Dalrymple leaving the Jackrabbits after having so much success in the blue and orange, but as the Bobby Lynch and Luis Costello trades showed us, anything can happen.
