Down the Rabbit Hole (35.06): Paving New Rhodes

Post by bpbrooksy » Sun Jun 03, 2018 1:44 pm

The Edmonton Jackrabbits dished out their first major contract of the 2034 offseason. In an attempt to bolster the offense -- that should already see some improvement thanks to a couple of prospects making their career debuts next year -- Edmonton has signed first baseman/designated hitter Dusty Rhodes (10/3/6/5/10 Ratings, .375/.418/.472, 16 HR, 72 RBI) to a three-year, $23 million deal, with a $10 million option for a fourth year.

Rhodes, 30 years old, is coming off a 3.5-win season during which he hit .375, led the league with 232 hits, and won his third BBA batting title (two with Madison in his first two seasons.) Having beautifully delivered in a prove-it year with Rockville, Rhodes opted out of his contract after just one season with the Pikeman.

Exceptionally durable, last season was the first year in nine big-league campaigns where Rhodes did not play all 162 games of the season.

Rhodes will likely slot in to the top of the batting order, as his .418 OBP last season would have led the team. Mitch Dalrymple (9/7/8/4/8 Ratings, .327/.383/.537, 25 HR, 82 RBI), at .383, led the team last season.

Rhodes will wear #27, the number he wore with the Wolves.
