Down the Rabbit Hole (35.04): Arbitration Station

Post by bpbrooksy » Fri May 25, 2018 2:34 pm

For the second consecutive year, the Edmonton Jackrabbits have won all of their arbitration cases.

Nine members of the current squad agreed to the club's offered one-year contracts, with stopper Alfredo Martinez (10/4/7 Ratings, 7 - 15, 5.15 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 238 K) inking the biggest paycheck at $3.9 million -- this coming after a year in which Martinez led the league in games pitched (92), recorded 17 saves, pitched over 200 innings as a reliever, and struck out a whopping 238 hitters. An unusually high BABIP led to a high ERA, but the team hopes both of those figures will drop in 2035, and that Alfredo's declining movement won't catch up with him too fast.

This brings the 2035 expected payroll to $47.9 million, fourth-lowest behind San Antonio and the two expansion teams, who don't have players yet. This is in line with Edmonton's budget of $79 million, also fourth-lowest in the league.
