Down the Rabbit Hole (35.02): Err Jordan

Post by bpbrooksy » Tue May 22, 2018 10:32 pm

Image It was announced today that third baseman Luke Jordan (5/7/6/6/5 Ratings, .228/.282/.365, 11 HR, 33 RBI)'s team option for the 2035 season was not exercised by the Edmonton Jackrabbits. The 33-year-old Jordan will become a free agent.

Jordan came up with the Yellow Springs Nine, where he was a league-average hitter who put together seven solid seasons, including an All-Star appearance and Puckett Award in 2029. After putting up back-to-back three-win seasons in his late 20's, Jordan was signed to a four-year deal with Edmonton in the winter of 2030, with a team option.

Unfortunately, Jordan was never the same hitter in Edmonton as he was in Yellow Springs. In 566 games over four seasons with the Rabbits, Jordan never managed an OPS+ of 100 or above, though his ability to hit the ball for extra bases and play passable defense meant he was still worth positive value -- until this season, when a career-low .647 OPS led to an -0.7 WAR over 105 starts.

Jordan was worth 4.8 WAR with the Rabbits, and hit .244/.315/.386 with 551 homers for the club. Best wishes!
