Down the Rabbit Hole (35.01): Mitch Represents in the Voting

Post by bpbrooksy » Tue May 22, 2018 12:05 pm

As the page irrevocably turns to the midway point of the decade, it's worth one last look at the 2034 season, to see which Jackrabbits made splashes in the end-of-season award voting.

While some thought Mitch Dalrymple (9/7/8/4/8 Talents, .327/.383/.537, 25 HR, 82 RBI) might be a leading Gillstrom candidate during parts of this season -- especially after his torrid June, where he hit .404 with 15 extra-base hits -- he wound up finishing in second place to starting pitcher Miguel Ramos of California, a worthy winner who continues a streak of top-line southpaw hurlers winning the rookie award. This year, Dalrymple went 1-for-6 off Ramos.

Moving on to the Zimmer awards. Previously, starting pitcher Rodger van der Knaap (8/6/8 Talents, 3 - 7, 5.19 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 93 K) was the only Jackrabbit to take home a Zimmer while currently playing for Edmonton. Now, the long reliever joins forces with Dalrymple, who takes home the Diamond Glove Award in right field after posting a +12.0 zone rating with 14 assists at the position this season.

Finally, worth noting is Bobby Lynch (10/7/9 Talents, 9 - 8, 2.93 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 258 K)'s second-place finish in the Nebraska voting this season. While Slugger Kevin Morales (9/7/9 Talents, 19 - 5, 2.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 208 K) took home the trophy, Lynch led the league with 258 strikeouts, and improved his innings, ERA, WHIP, K/9, ERA+, and WAR from last season en route to the All-Star Game. Perhaps next season he will make the leap and become the outright Nebraska winner.

Lynch and Dalrymple are clearly the Jackrabbit torch bearers.

Certainly. It's nice to have a little identity, particularly offensive identity.

Be careful of what you ask for. Louisville has always had a pretty offensive identity.

Nice bit digging up Dalrymple's stats versus Ramos. Not just saying that cuz Ramos is my guy. It's cool to see how the two frontrunners did against each other. IF Dalrymple plays a full season, or just stayed hot a tad longer, the award was his.
