Down the Rabbit Hole (34.02): The Mitch Sitch

Post by bpbrooksy » Sat Mar 17, 2018 5:57 pm

Baseball's #10 prospect, outfielder Mitch Dalrymple (9/7/8/4/8 Ratings), has received the call on May 5th to replace an injured Malcolm Guesne (6/7/7/5/6 Ratings) in the Edmonton Jackrabbits' starting lineup. The first-round selection two seasons prior, Dalrymple ascended quickly through Edmonton's minor-league ranks, putting up a 4.6 WAR mark in 94 games last season (a campaign during which he progressed from Single- to Triple-A), ultimately earning his callup just two months after his 21st birthday.

Some considered Mitch a worthy candidate to make the roster right out of spring training. Certainly the tools were there, but management elected to give Dalrymple more than 30 total games' worth of practice at the Triple-A level before giving him a promotion. The 6'1" lefty hit .295/.326/.629 with 8 doubles and 12 homers in 138 plate appearances so far this season.

Armed with an elite hit tool and raw power, Dalrymple will slot into left field until Guesne returns to action, at which point he will slide over to his preferred right field, where he hopes to begin his tenure as the permanent right fielder of a contending Rabbits franchise.

Bad news for the Frick, but a great sign for the fans of Edmonton.
