Down the Rabbit Hole (33.16): Bobby Lynch Receives the Call

Post by bpbrooksy » Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:20 am

It's the most highly-anticipated event in the history of the Edmonton Jackrabbits franchise: Bobby Lynch is coming to the major leagues.

The promotion was expected in early May regardless of what was happening with the rest of the team, but the injury to starter Ed Kenney (8/6/6 Talents) gave upper management plenty of reason to promote Lynch (as if we didn't already have enough already.) Kenney's injury might have also saved the skin of Rodger van der Knaap (8/6/8 Talents), but that's another story for another time.

Bobby Lynch. Named the BBA's #1 overall prospect two years in a row, the 21-year-old lefty was signed in February of 2029 for a $2 million signing bonus, a year after failing to sign with the Atlantic City Gamblers in the fourth round of that year's draft. Since then, Lynch has developed his velocity, control, and deception, a combination of focuses that shot him through the prospect rankings like a speeding bullet.

Lynch can throw over 100 mph, features a devastating curveball, and hardly walks anyone. So far this year at Triple-A Winnipeg, he's pitched 46.2 innings, and has a 2.31 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9, 12.5 K/9, a 181 ERA+, and 1.6 WAR. The promotion of the Texas native instantaneously will improve the pitching staff, put fans in the seats, and give opposing teams a genuine reason to be concerned about facing the Rabbits once every five days.

But this call-up represents something more important for Edmonton. This is an exceedingly young franchise, one who's struggled to lure free agents, one who has to trade away established major-league talent in order to have a chance at a competitive future. Bobby Lynch could be the Edmonton Jackrabbits' first-ever face of the franchise, and bring an identity to a team that doesn't really have any yet. That, as much as the eye-popping minor-league statlines, is something to be excited about for the Edmonton faithful.

Bobby Lynch will make his major-league debut on May 9th versus the Mexico City Aztecs.

Despite the 6 MOV he's been able to keep the HRs down in the minors. Will that translate to the BBA? Regardless, he's a great talent, and will mostly be giving up solo bombs if it becomes a problem.
