As the season has wound down, the Landis has been yet again awarded, and GMs throughout the league look to the future, the hum of speculation takes hold over the city of Edmonton. With their second GM in as many years, an air of cautious optimism abounds. The question is whether sweeping change will result in a drastic result, success or otherwise; or whether a methodical, planned approach will lead the club to later glory. The only certainty in baseball is the number of outs in a game, and so the hum of speculation.

The early offseason has been relatively quiet, with Rhys Allen content to handle the existing roster, bolster the staff, and assess the situation. There are a number of pieces in the farm that could be useful contributors in the Brewster, and even a few that might be considered impact, but the key cornerstone piece seems to be absent. In a brief interview with Mr. Allen, the Herald gleaned some insight into the way forward.

"We'll definitely be looking at some signings. The budget has room, and obviously our record shows the need. I haven't yet determined exactly where, but the yellow brick road, so to speak, will become clearer as I speak to some of the agents and assess the market." When asked if he had any sort of inkling as to the direction he'd first like to shore up, Allen reconfirmed his previous statement, but did add that he had some confidence in his rotation and bullpen. "While the numbers may not have been stellar last year, there were definitely positives, and with the right moves elsewhere, I think you'll see some improvement all around."

As we move into December and beyond, look forward to further news from the Herald on your Jackrabbits. News on signings will continue through the offseason and into regular play.

I love seeing how all of the expansion GMs take different paths to build their organizations.
