Review Mid-ish Season; 2028, V12

Post by Bumstead » Mon Oct 10, 2016 11:28 am

So, it's mid-ish season in 2028 and Madrid is sucking wind. All the puffing, and this team has delivered on none of it. It's actually been rumored that Madrid asked to be moved to the other division so that they could compete for worst team ever to win a division...but, alas, now is the time to manage the team toward the Rule 28 draft or whatever it is.

Who are the best players for Madrid and how can they be protected (or not): "One Dog" Verkade seems like the most obvious choice as the most likely player to be sniped by one of the MBBA fellers. I wish he would explain his affinity for owning just one dog...I mean, if you have 2 dogs they can entertain themselves, right? What's wrong with that? Does he want his dog to be lonely? Eh...who knows; who cares? Anyway, fortunately for the MBBA One Dog is out of options, mostly because of the brilliance of starting his clock when he was 21 and not ready for the EBA...So, we head into battle with Verkade with no protection...His current slash is: .284/.398/.396/.795. He has tremendous plate discipline, hits a lot of doubles and he plays a solid 2nd base. He's on pace for his 2nd consecutive 5 win season. He doesn't care much about winning or losing but he does show up everyday ready to play. Look away MBBA fellers!

Honestly, he's probably the only one in real danger of being vultured. So, who's the guy having the best season?

Mark Webber is having a tremendous season and he doesn't have a ridiculous nickname that nobody understands. His current slash (before last sim where he hit .480) is: .329/.376/.403/.779. As a former MMBA snatch that failed at that level, he's probably safe. His production is much more based on his batting average than plate discipline, plus he plays a very nice shortstop. He's currently on pace for a 4.5 win season and he's really been a big surprise offensively this season.

Another guy on pace for a 4.5 win season is Cristo Oliveira. His slash: .308/.376/.420/.797. He also has 29 stolen bases and is a tremendous defender in the outfield. He has really solidified the leadoff spot for the Matadors. Plus, he's the team leader and does a good job keeping everyone in the game. I would think with his contact rate that he's probably a marginal candidate for a snatching.

Hey what about the season Keith Young is having. "Yo bitches, look at me!" His slash: .257/.316/.522/.838. He has 27 homers and is having a resurgent season at age 37. It hearkens back to his 2018 season in the MBBA where he was an All Star for Las Vegas. He's surpassed 300 HR's for his career which include 90 as a MBBA player back in the day.

Obviously, these are only the hitters, and we have some pitchers performing well, but these guys deserved the mention, not as advertisement for vulturing but for being the bright spots on a team that feels it should be competing for a spot in the playoffs not competing to not be the worst team in the league...
