The Madrid Matadors are proud to present the inaugural issue of “La Querencia”, and we truly hope you find it both informative and entertaining. The last Matador publication saw it's last issue published in Spring of 2025. The La Querencia blends elements of previous Matador publications,
with our new GM/Manager’s point of view/perspective in hopes of providing our fans and followers with an insight into the club.

That being said, we certainly have big news to announce in this inaugural issue. After weeks of speculation, we can now (officially) confirm that Chris O’Rourke, out of The United States, has taken the reigns as both GM & Manager for the Madrid Matadors!

The rumors of O’Rourke’spotential arrival had been met with both criticism and praise for owner, Frank Le Du. Criticism is nothing new to the 73 year old Frenchman, nor is it something he has ever shied away from. After confirmation of the hiring, Le Du was pressed about O’Rourke’sarrival by J. Ignacio García-Ochoa of Marca (in regards to the former GM’s firing). Le Du responded with “I'd fire my mother for the chance to hire Chris O’Rourke”. The room was filled with both chuckles and gasps at this comment. Still, most have come to expect this sort of directness from the Frenchman. As the press conference continued, Marco Ruiz (of AS) questioned Le Du on O’Rourke’sfiery reputation, in which Le Duresponded “Some people have a chip on their shoulder. Chris has a whole lumberyard…and that is just what this team needs as we make a push for the division.”

Even with all this praise from Le Du, there are still those who still chose to stir the controversy pot. We are sure all Matador fans have all seen the quote from the EBA Baseball Alliance source that, of course, wished to stay anonymous ("There's a lot of faith in him to do the job, but I'm not so sure how much rope he will get”). Le Du was questioned directly by Juan Manuel Diaz (Sport.es) regarding this quote to which he responded, “Chris a good man and a good baseball man. I think if you're in Madrid, you should be excited. You know the way Chris goes about his business and his knowledge of the game and that it's going to be a good fit here."

Only time will tell, but all of us here are truly excited for the O’Rourke era to begin!

She's actually dead...Le Du was just trying to make a point. Shame on you for bringing up the man's dead mother.

Thanks felipe! My first go of it...all praise is gladly accepted. I feel exposed, as this is definitely not "my thing"!
