Paris Hall of Fame / Retired Numbers

Post by udlb58 » Fri Feb 05, 2016 11:30 am

2B/OF - Timoteo Sertori - #36
ImageG: 1030 (2nd)
H: 915 (2nd)
2B: 75 (5th)
3B: 24 (3rd)
HR: 127 (2nd)
RBI: 487 (1st)
.265/.353/.440 (-/9th/6th)
WAR: 22.2 (4th)

Timoteo is one of the longest tenured hitters in the history of the Patriots and an interesting case for the team's Hall of Fame. He was always a very good player in the EBA, but never truly dominant enough to be pulled away by a MBBA team. Despite never being pulled across the pond, Sertori still had a number of very good seasons and ranks among the Patriot leaders in both counting and many rate stats. His best season had to be 2018 when he hit .294/.372/.505 with 22 HR and 89 RBI. He was selected to his first of 4 EBA All-Star games and picked up his first of two Sammy Mc Teir Glove Awards, all while leading the Patriots to a victory in the European Cup.

3B/1B - Marvin Stupples - #21
ImageG: 698 (9th)
H: 768 (7th)
2B: 145 (9th)
HR: 75 (5th)
TB: 1154 (8th)
RBI: 345 (8th)
.332/.420/.498 (1st/1st/1st)
WAR: 28.7 (1st)

Due to his age when entering professional baseball, Marvin's star burned out fairly quickly, but boy did it burn bright while it lasted. He joined the Paris organization at 28 during the 2002 inaugural EBA season. Stupples was one of the top corner infielders in the EBA from 2002-2007 and he set Patriot single season records for AVG (.373), OBP (.452), WAR (8.4) during that 2002 season. While unrelated to this HOF, he did have a very nice career in the MBBA (104 OPS+, 9.3 WAR in 5 seasons) despite already being 34 when he made the jump.

3B/1B - Han Witter - #9
ImageG: 675 (10th)
H: 825 (5th)
2B: 174 (6th)
HR: 60 (9th)
TB: 1205 (7th)
RBI: 393 (5th)
.324/.373/.473 (2nd/6th/3rd)
WAR: 20.1 (5th)

Han was taken in the 1st round of the 2nd EBA draft and didn't take long to reach the EBA, making his debut in 2004. While Witter didn't have the prototypical power most want out of a corner infielder, he could flat out hit, using all fields and driving the ball into the gaps with regularity (he topped 39 doubles each of his 4 full seasons). His best season had to be 2009 when he hit .353, collected his 2nd Sammy Mc Teir Glove Award, earned his 3rd All-Star nomination, and broke his own team record with 229 hits. Like Stupples, the MBBA snapped him up at the first chance and he had a long, respectable career in the States (972 games, 1,000+ hits, 102 OPS+).

1B/OF - Sammy Dawbin - #4
ImageG: 897 (3rd)
H: 912 (3rd)
2B: 176 (4th)
HR: 121 (3rd)
TB: 1467 (2nd)
RBI: 429 (3rd)
.305/.405/.491 (4th/2nd/2nd)
WAR: 22.3 (3rd)

Sammy was a first round selection of Paris in 2014. He made his EBA debut in 2015 and played parts of 8 seasons with the club before finally getting snatched up in the Rule 6 draft. Dawbin was a key contributor to the Paris playoff streak that lasted until 2020, Dawbin was arguably the top hitter in the EBA from 2018-2020, finishing 4th, 1st, and 2nd in both OPS and RC/27; and it really shocks me that he wasn't selected in the Rule 6 after that 2020 season. During his career in Paris he was selected to 4 All-Star games, won the European Cup, and won the 2019 Jean-Marc Fraysse Batter Award.

C - Júlio Chacón - #30
ImageG: 1115 (1st)
H: 980 (1st)
2B: 218 (2nd)
HR: 67 (7th)
TB: 1419 (3rd)
RBI: 460 (2nd)
.272/.379/.393 (10th/5th/-)
WAR: 25.2 (2nd)

Chacón was taken in the first round of the 2005 draft by Munchen and traded to Paris just 3 months after the draft. He didn't get his first regular playing time until 2010 and the promising young catcher was inexplicably traded to Amsterdam the following season for 8 games of Steve Taub. He would get picked in the Rule 6 at first availability, but flamed out of the MBBA after 2 seasons. The Paris organization wasn't going to let this still fairly young catcher slip through their grasp again, signing Julio to a 2-year, $6.32 M contract. He paid immediate dividends, earning trips to the All-star game three consecutive seasons (2017-19) and starting 131 games at catcher with a 155 OPS+ and 6.3 WAR for the 2018 European Cup Champions. That stretch alone would be enough to earn him consideration for the Patriot HOF, but he would go on to play 4 more solid seasons in Paris and set team records for games played (1115), games started (1025, all at catcher), and hits (980). Like Sertori, he walked the fine line of being a very good hitter in the EBA, but not quite good enough to make it in the MBBA, resulting in some very good counting statistics.

P - Lenny Pineau - #12
ImageGS: 372 (1st)
W-L: 158-126 (both 1st)
W%: 55.6 (6th)
ERA: 4.15 (6th)
WHIP: 1.48
K: 1474 (1st)
OSLG: .363 (1st)
WAR: 42.0 (1st)

Drafted in the first round by Rome in 2006, Pineau bounced around the minors for a few years before finally finding a home with the Paris organization. Lenny had an exceptionally heavy fastball that hitters had a difficult time squaring up. Though he didn't have exceptional stuff or control, he was still very consistent and brought stability to an organization that did not have much of that in the rotation. Over his 13 year career on the mound with Paris, Pineau set many single season records (W, W%, WAR, OSLG, and OOPS) to go along with the long list of career counting records he set both in Paris (Starts, Wins, Ks, OSLG, WAR) and overall EBA awards (Wins, IP, and WAR). The great pitcher was a 6-time all-star with Paris, was a key part of two European Cups, and won two Sammy Mc Teir Glove Awards.

CL - Júlio Puente - #30
ImageG: 539 (1st)
SV: 192 (1st)
ERA: 3.79 (3rd)
WHIP: 1.48
K/9: 7.1 (5th)
OAVG: .261 (6th)
OOPS: .709 (3rd)
WAR: 5.7

One of the top relievers in the history of the EBA, Puente had an inauspicious start to his professional career, posting an ERA approaching 5.00 in his first three seasons. A 2005 move to Paris jump-started his career, and he really hit his stride when he was moved into the closer's role in 2007, a job he would hold on to through 2012. That longevity is the most impressive part of his resume, as he leads both the Paris organization and the EBA in career saves, despite just once pitching on a team that finished with over 80 wins.

Okay, so I want to finish this up and add the retired numbers, is there any way to know exactly what number they wore with a past team? (I'm assuming their numbers could change when moving to a new team)
