Madrid Sends 8 to All-Star Tilt
Starting pitchers Alberto Escobedo (10-1, 2.67) and (rookie) Baily Attoehow (10-3, 3.05) headed a collection of eight Matadors who played in the 2024 EBA All-Star game, five of them pitchers. In addition to the two rotation stalwarts, relievers Jaime De Castillo (6-0, 1.70) and Pedro Pérez (3-1, 0.72) attended, as did closer Ruairí Tarras (whose 30 saves thus far in the season is on pace to surpass the EBA single-0season record, currently owned by Luis Sachse). In the field, the team sent outfielders Henry West (.352, 12 SB), Joe Anderson (.301, 13 HR), and Mark Banks (.335/.395/.480, 8 HR, 15 SB).
"We were pleased to have these guys represent us," said GM RonCo, "The team is playing well, and we hope we can bring that momentum into the second half of the season."
Madrid is sitting at 60-28 as of the break, and holds an 11 game lead over Munchen. With the exception of Tarras (who allowed the Western Alliances winning runs), the Matador representatives to the game had fairly unassuming evenings, and can be expected to return to the club relatively rested and none the worse for wear and tear. The club will open the second half on the road in Brussels, before hosting Rome in preparation for a somewhat critical three games with Munchen.
"If can take those three games," said one fan who may have had a little too much to drink, "we can really grind our heels into those fops from Germany."
Attendance for the club's games has been on the rise as of recent times, occasionally hitting the 15,000 mark. "It's beginning to make Matador Park look a bit tiny," said Mateo Santiago, the radio and internet voice of the Matadoors.
GRANADOS TO RETURN:
The team received good news on the medical front, as starter Alfredo “Brainwave” Granados has been cleared to throw, and is expected to start against Rome. Brainwave has been on the DL for a few weeks nursing a strained oblique.
CLEANING HOUSE IN VILADECANS CONTINUIES:
The Matador AAA club saw another visit from the Turk this week, as the roster was trimmed from 72 players down to 63. Players are being given a “pittance” in severance pay, and directions to the local food banks and employment agencies.

Another good writeup. I don't have any specific comments except that the reading has been fun.
Okay, so I may have one specific, if unrelated comment. Every time someone uses the word "pittance", I think of Futurama.
"To my loyal butler, You There, for his decades of service, I leave a pittance, to be paid in 20 equal installments of one-twentieth of a pittance each."
